The 2018 Ford Ranger will have exterior and interior revisions while changes to powertrain are expected as well
Ford will likely be introducing the facelifted Ranger in the United States at 2018 NAIAS (North American International Auto Show) and ahead of its debut undisguised spy pictures have greeted us on the internet. It will have major updates on the outside as well as the inside as the spy shots captured in Thailand indicate that the design changes will not be exclusive to the America countries.
Markets like Thailand and Brazil will also have the revised exterior as Ford tries to mainstream the Ranger’s styling. As for the exterior, the pickup truck now has slimmer front grille than the outgoing model as the traditional steel chest does not require the leading edge to the plate area. Ford’s design engineers have made the horizontal slats residing inside the grille thinner as well. Moreover, the bumper section features bigger air intake and revised fog lamps with dark contour.
Ford has taken a page out of the Everest and fitted its LED system in place of the Daytime Running Lights while an LED projector sits alongside the main headlamp unit. The rear end has seen updates as much as the front in a bid to make the Ranger more imposing than ever before. No pictures of the interior have been out yet but expect it to have substantial modifications as the exterior.
There will be mechanical and powertrain changes too in the upcoming Raptor. It should keep the existing 2.5-litre engine which is good enough to produce a maximum power output of 173 hp and the smaller 2.2-litre diesel mill kicking out as much as 160 hp. However, the bigger 3.2-litre turbocharged diesel making 200 hp could be replaced by a brand new fuel-efficient 2.0-litre unit coupled with a ten-speed automatic gearbox.
It is expected to develop close to 205 hp. While the new Ford Ranger is expected to walk down the ramp in Detroit in just over a week’s time, the American brand could reserve the debut of a more powerful version for Thailand next month.
