2018 Ducati Monster 659 Low-Spec Version Introduced

The new version is aimed at learning riders and is limited for sale in Australia and New Zealand

Ducati has recently announced the 2018 model of Monster 659 for Australia and New Zealand. The motorcycle will be exclusively produced and sold in these markets only. The objective behind the Monster 659 low spec model is to cater budding riders under the Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme (LAMS) that is implemented in both the places.

The 2018 Ducati Monster 659, as the name suggests, is powered by a 659cc, air-cooled, L-twin engine that has been assisted to a six-speed transmission system. The fuel injected motor sheds out a maximum power output of 51 bhp along with a peak torque of 46.5 Nm.

The new Ducati Monster 659 is based on the Monster 797 that is the smallest displacement bike by the company’s Monster line up for India. The Monster 659 also shares most of the features with the Monster 797 and hence comes across as a more value for money package.

The Ducati Monster 659 comes equipped with 43mm inverted forks up front along with a Sachs monoshock for the rear. The braking duties are done with the help of twin 320mm disc brakes at the front along with a 245mm single disc brake at the rear. An Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) has been fitted as standard.

In comparison to the Ducati Monster 797, the 659 has a smaller fuel tank at 15-litre. Not only this, the motorcycle also accounts for a lesser kerb weight at 187 kgs. The seat height of this bike is also a bit low at 785mm in order to offer convenience to short heighted riders. The Ducati Monster 659 will be available for sale at the dealerships in Australia and New Zealand starting next month at a price of AUD 12,490 or Rs 6.42 lakhs.

In other news, Ducati has just launched the SuperSports series in India starting at Rs. 12.08 lakh (ex-showroom). Both bikes come powered by a same 937cc, Testastretta, L-twin engine churning out 110 bhp of power and 93 Nm of torque.
