2018 BMW 8-Series will be underpinned by the same CLAR platform that spawns the 7 and 5-Series; will be more upmarket than outgoing 6-Series Coupe
Early last year, BMW announced that it would launch the new 8-Series as part of a new strategy targetting more sales with high-end luxury cars by refreshing the entire product range and strengthening the technical side of things.
The timeline indicated that a i8 Roaster while Mini’s first all-electric model will arrive the following year before an electric 3 and iNext production model scheduled for the next two years respectively.

As soon as confirming the presence of a new reborn 8-Series in March, BMW has released the first teaser image of the concept model that will eventually turn into a production reality. It will debut later this month as the public debut is scheduled on May 26 at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.
The global premiere of the design study will ultimately lead to the showroom-spec version about to come out sometime in 2018. The BMW 8 Series Coupe will build on the Bavarian brand’s tradition of luxurious sports coupes and add a genuine “dream car” to our line-up with “pure automotive fascination” according to BMW’s Harald Kruger.

Said to be a true luxury sports coupe, it is hoped to underpin BMW’s claim of the leadership in the luxury segment. The new BMW 8-Series will sit on the same modular CLAR platform that spawns models like the 7 and 5-Series. It is likely to be positioned under the Rolls Royce Wraith in the Group’s model range and will be more premium than the outgoing 6-Series Coupe.
It will also give way to a convertible 8-Series in 2019 while a range-topping V12 also seems to be in the pipeline. We have not known yet if a M8 will be produced but let us hope that BMW will eventually do it.
