BMW 6-Series GT has plush styling and interior; uses a 2.0-litre petrol engine making 258 PS and 400 Nm peak torque
BMW introduced the all-new 6-Series Gran Turismo that replaced the 5-Series GT back in mid-2017 ahead of its world debut in November. It has got everything its global predecessor did not with modifications to overcome the cynics.
The Indian luxury market has experienced increasing sales in recent years. The timely arrival of Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB has made customers to understand a new trend. The 6-Series GT though focuses on its market share with a longer and wider demeanour. In other words, it will be aiming to mimic the success story of the 3-Series GT.

For instance, it measures 5,091 mm in length and has its height decreased by 21 mm. The 6-Series Gran Turismo comprises of a redesigned tailgate and sits 64 mm lower. The proportional changes are done to perfect the entire design language. It has a wheelbase of 3,070 mm, width of 1,902 mm and stands 1,538 mm tall with curb weight ranging between 1,720 kg and 1,880 kg.
The BMW 6-Series GT features a large grille assembly with LED headlights, vents on the front fenders, wraparound taillights with 3D styling elements, unique frameless windows and so on.

As opposed to the very distinguishable exterior, the interior resembles the latest 5-Series which was launched in India last year. The bootspace capacity is 610 litres and it can be expanded to thrice its volume when rear seats folded down electronically.
It comes equipped with a floating 10.25-inch iDrive touchscreen infotainment system with voice command and gesture control, electrically adjustable rear seats and heads up display among others. In global markets, BMW has included its latest semi-autonomous driving technology in the 6-Series GT.

Three engine options are offered internationally in select markets. The 630i has a 2.0-litre motor making 258 PS and 400 Nm peak torque. It is paired to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and claims to have 0-100 kmph time of 6.3 seconds. It is the only engine made available initially at its launch as a diesel motor will be added to the lineup in H2 2018.
The 640i GT utilises a 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine producing 340 PS and 450 Nm torque. It has a zero to 100 kmph time of 5.3 seconds – a second quicker than the 630i. It can be had with an all-wheel drive configuration.
In Europe, the 6-Series GT, in the 630d diesel format, comes with the 3.0-litre six-pot engine generating 265 PS and 620 Nm of torque. It can do 0l to 100 kmph in six seconds and power is transferred via all-wheel-drive system.

The 2018 BMW 6-Series Gran Turismo is priced at Rs. 58.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the lone 2.0-litre petrol variant. A diesel option will join in the second half of this year and both the engines will be locally assembled in Chennai. In India, the range-topping 5-Series is the performance based M5 costing at around Rs. 1.36 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi) currently.
