The Dominar 400 is currently going through an unsatisfactory sales phase and the incoming new version might do the much needed trick for Bajaj

Bajaj Auto first showcased the Dominar 400 in concept form at the 2014 Auto Expo under the Pulsar CS400 name. Two years later, the Pune-based manufacturer launched the motorcycle at a stunning starting price of Rs. 1.36 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and it looked like a steal. Almost everyone in the Indian motoring fraternity was quite sure about the success of the Dominar.

However, the stars of the Dominar 400 were not that much aligned and bought no luck for the machine. The Bajaj Dominar 400 accounted for a total unit sales of just 1,341 units in the month of July 2017 as against Bajaj’s optimism of seeing the bike hitting 10,000 sales numbers a month.

The Bajaj Dominar comes powered by the same 373cc, liquid-cooled engine and this is the same unit that runs the KTM 390 Duke. The motor in the Bajaj’s power cruiser is in a different state of tune and it manages to churn respective power and torque outputs of 34.5 bhp and 35 Nm.

Now, there are some reports on the internet suggesting that Bajaj has plans to make some tweaks on the Dominar 400. Sadly, there is no information available on what exact updates will be done on the motorcycle. We believe that if Bajaj is planning to tweak the Dominar in order to up the sales, a bit of style changes might do the trick. We don’t see any sense at present with the company doing any tuning to the engine.

In other news, Bajaj Auto has recently partnered with Triumph Motorcycles to build mid capacity motorcycles in India. While the designing and engineering of these bikes will be taken care of by Triumph, the manufacturing along with the sales network will be handled by Bajaj. Bajaj is even planning to build a separate production facility for this purpose near its existing Chakan factory near Pune. Some reports have already started stating that the first product to roll out of the Bajaj-Triumph alliance will be an affordable middleweight bike. More details will get unfold in the year 2019.
