Bajaj has updated Avenger Street and Cruise 220 with several cosmetic changes and added features; powertrain remains the same

As we reported earlier, Bajaj Auto has officially launched the updated Avenger series in India after revealing it a few days ago along with the new Discover 110 and 125. Both the Avenger Street and Cruise come wearing several cosmetic upgrades. Without changing the basic design, they have become more premium for 2018 as the Avenger Cruise 220 and Street 220 are priced at Rs.92,954 (ex-showroom, Maharashtra) respectively.

Bajaj says the updates “re-define the cruiser bike segment” to offer contemporary styling while retaining the classical silhouette. Do they make a big difference? Let us find out below all the changes that went into the bestselling cruisers in the country!

It enables reading for speed and has dual trip meters, service reminder and fuel gauge. However, the round shaped single-pod chrome rimmed design has received only minor tweaks along with revised Avenger insignia.

The headlamp gets integrated LED Daytime Running Lights flanking the sides and there is a more comfortable seating arrangement with new textures focusing at long distance commuting.

Among other updates, the new Bajaj Avengers sport a bigger windshield mounted on a chromed bracket and the ape hanger handlebar. The Avenger Cruise 220 is made available in two colours namely Auburn Black and Moon White while the Street 220 gets Matte Black and Matte White shades. The new Moon White colour is absolutely gorgeous to look at.

The Avenger Street 220 boasts an all-new roadster design headlamp with LED DRLs incorporated in the bottom section, a bikini fairing and roadster styled rear grab. Other significant changes are a revised tail fender, new halo-effect tail lamp, improved rear suspension with 12 percent additional travel, new body colours and graphics among others.

The backrest also gets the Avenger insignia. The Street 220 though has some unique styling like the matte black exhaust with aluminium-finish heat shield and tip. On the powertrain front, the updated Bajaj Avenger series comes featuring same engine as the current model. Power and torque outputs too remain the same as the outgoing models.

Speaking about the powertrain, the Bajaj Avenger 150 Street, which does not have anything in the way of significant cosmetic updates, comes drawing energy from a 150 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that is coupled with a 5-speed transmission. This engine is well capable of churning out 14.30 bhp of peak power at 9,000 rpm and 12.50 Nm of peak torque at 6,500 rpm. However, it is expected to get changes from its bigger siblings at a later time.

2018 Bajaj Avenger Street 220 Launched In India - Price, Engine, Specs, Features, Mileage, Performance, Booking 4The Avenger 220 series derives power from a 220 cc single-cylinder, oil-cooled DTS-i engine paired with a 5-speed gearbox. This engine is capable of pumping out 19 bhp of peak power at 8,400 rpm and 17.50 Nm of peak torque at 7,000 rpm. Disappointingly, the Avenger 200 models do not sport a single channel ABS yet despite earlier test mules suggested so. Braking duty is performed by a disc brake on front wheel and there will be a rear drum brake.

Bajaj Auto has done a commendable job by updating the avenger lineup previously. Thanks to that, the Avenger series became very popular in the country market and with the newly facelifted version, Bajaj is expecting to see a sales boost. On the cost front, the new Avenger series is slightly pricier compared to the outgoing model but comfortably undercuts its main rival.

2018 Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220 Launched In India - Price, Engine, Specs, Features, Mileage, Performance, Booking 1The Avenger series has the lavishly styled Suzuki Intruder as its latest and by far the closest competitor in the market. Bajaj has the 220 cc twins as the top-sellers of the range and that’s why major visual updates are being poured on to them instead of the Street 150.

By having the advantage on the price game meant, the 220 models are around Rs. 9,000 cheaper than the Intruder. Bajaj celebrated one crore cumulative sales of the Pulsar range with the Black Pack editions recently while new colour schemes for Dominar 400 have started entering nationwide showrooms already.
