2017 Mercedes G-Class spied; it will be wider and lower than the outgoing model

Mercedes Benz G-Class or the G-Wagon is one of the most popular luxurious off roaders. The G-Class has been popular among both civilians and military forces for last three decades. And now the German auto manufacturer is all set to introduce a whole new generation G-Class. The new model would enter the market sometime in 2017. Before that the test mule of the new G-Wagon has been spotted testing for the first time.

Despite wearing complete camouflage the body is unmistakable. But the new model becomes wider and lower than the outgoing model. The car comes nearly 100 mm wider compare to the outbound G-Class. The weight of the car has been reduced by 200 kg, thanks to the usage of light body materials. No wonder the lighter weight will enhance the fuel economy.

The exterior features round shaped headlamps retained from the outgoing model. The front grille and front bumper might come with little bit of tweaks. The interior of the off roader is expected to be more luxurious and feature laden. The new G-Wagon will offer the occupants more comfortable journey with its sheer off roading characteristics.

The rear bumper of the G-Class test mule was missing, which gave the chance to gather some mechanical data also. The car features a more improved suspension set up, which will allow the vehicle to become more rigid. The new G-Wagon sports an electro mechanical steering wheel, which will give the driver easy maneuvering capability with better handling.

Power source for the 2017 Mercedes G-Class will include both the petrol and diesel engine options. The AMG variant of the new G-Class will be powered by a 4.0-litre massive V8 engine derived from G 500 and G 500 4×4². The power output of the car will be improved albeit. Transmission duty would be done by a 9G Tronic automatic gearbox.
