2017 Mercedes-Benz CLA facelift boasts exterior and interior revisions while engine options remain the same

Mercedes-Benz unveiled the facelifted CLA made its public debut at the 2016 New York Auto Show earlier this year. At its mid-life makeover, the car receives several updates at exterior and interior as well and it has finally been launched in Mumbai today for the Indian market. Here’s everything you need to know about the facelifted compact luxury sedan:

The Mercedes-Benz CLA 200 d Style is priced at Rs. 31.40 lakh, CLA 200 d Sport at Rs. 34.68 lakh and the CLA 200 Sport at Rs. 33.68 lakh (Ex-showroom, Mumbai).

The Mercedes-Benz CLA was launched by Roland Folger, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India and will be available in Mercedes-Benz dealerships across the country. It features an Avant-garde coupé design with powerful lines, striking light reflections, soft nose and extremely low Cd value of 0.25 – the lowest drag coefficient of any production car in the world according to Mercedes.

It comes with longest wheelbase in the segment of 2,699 mm and boasts high, stretched waistline, flat window surfaces and a long bonnet while the unusual concave and convex surfaces give the CLA an avant-garde, sporty character and create varied light effects. Available in Cavansite blue as well as other innovative finishes, the Coupé style ensure the signature appearance of the CLA is carried over.

It boasts re-designed LED taillights that enhance visual appearance, LED High Performance headlamps for more safety at night, 17-inch 5-Twin-Spoke Light-Alloy Wheels painted in tremolite grey with a high-sheen finish, etc. The rear also comes revamped with the exhaust tips now integrated into the rear bumper.

Interior receives makeover touch as well. The new CLA gets an all new infotainment system with an eight-inch slimmer screen. The new infotainment system gets voice operated control of Android phones and iPhones through Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also gets a new glass cover with ambient lighting system. It also receives revised switchgear and instrument cluster while the dynamic sideline in the door panels forms a link between the outside and inside.

The electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, audio 20 CD including pre-installation for Garmin Map Pilot, high-resolution media display, two USB ports and one SD card slot in the centre armrest for external audio and video devices, Bluetooth interface, Smartphone Integration Package, etc ensure premium quality to the highest level.

2017 Mercedes-Benz CLA Facelift Engine and Performance

Mechanically, for international markets, the 2017 CLA class gets a 1.6 litre and a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine available in seven states of tune for different variants. The diesel variants come with a 1.5 litre and a 2.2 litre engine with two different tunings. However, no powertrain revisions are done for our domestic market as the same 2.0-litre petrol on the CLA 200 and 2.1-litre diesel engine on the CLA 200d will be retained.

The petrol engine develops 183 PS and 300 Nm of torque while the diesel engine makes 135 PS and 300 Nm. Both motors are mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission. The petrol model can do 0-100 kmph in 7.1 seconds with top speed of 240 kmph while the diesel can achieve 0-100 kmph in 9 seconds and 220 kmph max speed.

The 7G-DCT dual clutch transmission has following features and function: ECO, Comfort, Sport and Individual transmission modes selectable via Dynamic Select button; Direct Select lever and steering-wheel gearshift paddles for manual gear-changing; Eco start/stop function; Gliding function in Eco mode with high fuel-saving potential; Integral, electro-hydraulic parking lock in the immobilizer.

The safety and driving assistance features that helped CLA to get 5 star rating from EURO NCAP include Reversing Camera, Six airbags, Attention Assist, TPMS (Tyre pressure monitoring system), ESP (Electronic Stability Program) and ABS (Anti-lock Braking System). Star Ease Maintenance package for the CLA 200 starts at Rs. 49,000 and for the CLA 200 d at Rs. 63,000. In addition to the 3 year warranty, customers can avail extended warranty for 4th year at a price of Rs. 38,000.
