2017 Maruti WagonR range will have the addition of VXi+ variant as Stingray is included in the regular lineup instead of being sold as separate model
An exclusive story from us recently revealed the 2017 Model Year Wagon R in its entry-level Lxi and mid Vxi guises. We showed you leaked pictures of the new generation WagonR hatchback a few days back and it will enter Japanese market firstly. It could be launched in India sometime next year or the year later but before that we got our hands on the updated WagonR for 2017 and it is hoped to keep the ball rolling for the largest car manufacturer in the country.
The tall-riding hatchback is one of the highly popular models ever to come out of Maruti Suzuki’s production lines and has carved a unique status to itself over several years. The New Delhi-based automaker always has the knack to constantly update its product lineup amidst having to wait long for a complete makeover as the demands are there to constantly maintain the sales figures. Staying true to that, a couple of months back, the WagonR received a limited edition Felicity model.

As subtle as it gets, the MY2017 WagonR gets dual-tone dashboard with black and beige colour scheme. The seat covers are adorned with beige material while the door trim touches do make it look slightly upmarket. The LXi badge sticker is removed and it is the only exterior change. The WagonR continues to feature a boxy appearance up front with sleek headlamps and a smooth face.
However, the major change is the addition of Stingray into the regular lineup as VXi+ variant. This effectively means the WagonR Stingray range, which is essentially an embellished version of regular model, will no longer exist. It gets all the styling enhancements like projector headlamps, myriad of chrome touches, side skirts, alloy wheels, dual airbags and ABS with EBD as option, etc. The Stingray moniker has been shelved and it will simply be known as WagonR VXi.

No mechanical changes are intended as the 2017 WagonR range continues to be powered by the 1.0-litre K10B DOHC 4V inline three-cylinder petrol engine. It produces 67 bhp at 6,200 rpm and 90 Nm of peak torque at 3,500 rpm. Driving the front axle is through a five-speed manual or a five-speed AGS automatic. It can also be had with an optional CNG kit. The 2017 Maruti Suzuki WagonR VXi will continue to boast a claimed fuel economy of 20.51 kmpl in both manual and automatic avatars as in the Stingray.
