The newly launched generation of the compact sedan is here to strengthen its position against the rivals like Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Ford Aspire and the likes.

The 2017 Dzire carries similar design language from its sibling, but the distinctiveness is also very much visible. It comes based on a completely new platform borrowed from the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, which ensures the new Dzire will come lightweight and offering better handling compared to the current model.

On the other hand, the Honda Amaze has been one of the tough rivals against the Dzire. Honda updated the Amaze with a facelift last year and the compact sedan comes with a revised front fascia, making it looking sportier and more aggressive compared to the pre-facelift version. The 2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire appears more stylish and upmarket looking compared to the predecessor. It gets a heavily redesigned front fascia, more in line with the new generation Swift hatchback, but not identical at all. The headlamps are sharper and sports integrated LED daytime running lights along with projector lamps. The front grille is completely new, larger and features plenty of chrome garnishing along with the horizontal slats. The front bumper gets black housing for the fog lamps and a sleek and wide air intake as well with horizontal slats.

Moving to the side profile, the new Maruti Dzire boasts new design alloy wheels, subtle character lines, blackened pillar, turn indicator integrated ORVMs and above all, a flowing plain look. So far, the side profile of the upcoming Dzire looks quite stylish than the old model. At the rear fascia of the compact sedan, it boasts pretty much similar design to the old model but receives minor tweaks. The compact taillights, a wide chrome stripe running horizontally between the taillamps and a muscular rear bumper are there. So far, the 2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire comes pretty stylish and attractive.

Speaking about the Honda Amaze it looks more aggressive than the Dzire due to the front fascia design. It gets bulging laid back headlamps, a thick Honda signature chrome bar at the front grille running between the headlights. The fog lamps are surrounded by blackened part, while the air intake with blackened mesh gives the front fascia of the car a bold appearance.

At the side profile, the turn indicator integrated ORVMs, alloy wheels, sleek character lines, body coloured door handles, blackened glass area give the compact sedan a strong appearance. Moving to the rear fascia, this car gets wraparound large taillights and a chrome bar running between them. The chunky bumper is also there.

If we compare the design of these two compact sedans, the 2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire appears much more suave and stylish looking than the Honda Amaze, if you consider the aesthetics charm of the Maruti vehicle.

2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire vs Honda Amaze – Dimension

Dimensionally, the 2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire is comes sporting a length of 3,995 mm, width of 1,735 mm, 1,515 mm of height and a wheelbase of 2,450 mm. Also, it gets 163 mm of ground clearance along with a boot storage capacity of 378-litre and 37-litre of fuel tank capacity. Thanks to the new platform borrowed from the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, the car is pretty much lightweight compared to the old Swift Dzire, which will help it with better handling.

On the other hand, the Honda Amaze appears with a length of 3,990 mm, 1,680 mm of width, 1,505 mm of height, 2,405 mm of wheelbase and it also comes with a ground clearance of 165 mm. The boot space capacity and fuel tank capacity for this car is 400-litre and 35-litre respectively.

Therefore, the 2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire is slightly longer than the Honda Amaze, while it is significantly wider too. The Dzire offers more headroom to the occupants, thanks to the 10 mm of extra height than the Amaze. Due to the much larger wheelbase (45 mm), the Maruti compact sedan is able to offer more leg space to the occupants compared to the Honda Amaze. The Honda compact sedan offers 22-litre of extra boot storage and in terms of ground clearance too, it is better by just 2 mm.

Interior of the 2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire has been designed in line with its hatchback sibling the new generation Swift. It comes wearing a stylish look, upmarket features compared to the predecessor. Seat and upholstery have been improved than before, enhancing the appeal further. The Maruti compact sedan comes with a new three-spoke multi-function steering wheel with sporty flat-bottom design.

Instrument cluster features dual-pod design and boasts both analog dials and a digital MID at the centre. Speaking about the centre console, it comes featuring a SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system with various other connectivity options along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

In comparison with the 2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire, the Honda Amaze’s interior doesn’t look as good as its rival. The Amaze sports a tilt-adjustable multi-function three-spoke steering wheel, analog dials and digital MID consisting instrument cluster. The centre console gets a 2DIN entertainment system. Having no touchscreen display, no navigation and information features is certainly a lacking point in competition against the all-new Maruti Suzuki Dzire.

The Honda Amaze comes with a dual-tone painted interior, which is very practical but aesthetically not as good as the Dzire is. In terms of space and comfort too, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire comes offering more leg-space and headroom than its rival, as we have already mentioned in the dimension part. However, the boot space on offer from Honda Amaze is pretty large and it can accommodate 400-litre of luggage compared to Dzire’s 320-litre storage capacity. Overall, we can say, the all-new Maruti Suzuki Dzire is much more stylish and premium compared to the Honda Amaze compact sedan.

2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire vs Honda Amaze – Powertrain

Upcoming all-new Maruti Suzuki Dzire comes available in both petrol and diesel engine options, just like the old model. The compact sedan retains the same engines under the hood. Therefore, it gets the same 1.2-litre petrol engine, while the diesel model is powered by the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre DDiS unit. Apart from that, a 1.0-litre Boosterjet petrol engine is on the card, but that would arrive later. This engine would be borrowed from the Baleno premium hatchback.

The new Maruti Suzuki Dzire is also expected to receives SHVS mild-hybrid technology introduced to the diesel model, just like the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz midsize sedan and the Ertiga. Not only that, Maruti Suzuki is also considering a 1.5-litre in-house all-new engine for the Dzire. But all these new powertrain options will be offered at later stage. Initially, the indigenously built engine will be available in the Ciaz and the Ertiga, and if the company gets success with that, it will be introduced to the Dzire. But initially, the new Dzire gets the same old tried and tested engines only.

The 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire generate similar power and torque output as the old one. For transmission duty, the car gets a 5-speed manual gearbox for both the petrol and diesel model. Petrol variant gets a 4-speed automatic gearbox, while the diesel model is offered with an AGS, giving the driver relief from the hassle of constantly pressing clutch and gear changing in the bumper to bumper city traffic.

The 1.2-litre petrol engine under the hood of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire is capable of churning out 84.3 PS of peak power at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. The diesel engine on the other hand is capable of kicking out 75 PS of peak power at 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm of peak torque from 2,000 rpm.

The Honda Amaze on the other hand, is also available in both petrol and diesel engine options. Petrol variant gets a 1.2-litre i-VTEC engine under the hood mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and churns out 88 PS of peak power at 6,000 rpm along with 109 Nm of peak torque at 4,500 rpm. There is a CVT gearbox on offer as well, which helps the petrol engine to kick out 90 PS of peak power at 6,000 rpm and 110 Nm of peak torque at 4,800 rpm.

The Honda Amaze diesel variant gets power from a 1.5-litre engine, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. It pumps out 100 PS of peak power at 3,600 rpm and 200 Nm of peak torque from 1,750 rpm. In terms of fuel efficiency, the Honda Amaze petrol MT variant returns 17.8 kmpl, while very interestingly, the CVT variant delivers 18.1 kmpl. On the other hand, the diesel model returns impressive 25.8 kmpl of fuel efficiency.

Now, if we compare the power and torque output of both the compact sedans, we can see the both of them are very competent against each other. The Honda Amaze delivers slightly better power, but the Maruti Dzire petrol generates more torque, while the diesel variant of Amaze is better torque generator than Dzire diesel. In terms of fuel efficiency also, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire is positioned at better place than its rival.

If we check the transmission, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire certainly comes with an edge over the Honda Amaze. It gets a 4-speed automatic gearbox compared to the CVT of Amaze in petrol variant, while the diesel powered Dzire comes with an AGS alongside the manual transmission, compared to Amaze’s manual gearbox setup. So, in comparison between these two vehicles, the Dzire certainly comes as more appealing to the customers.

2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire vs Honda Amaze – Safety

The 2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire will come with essential safety features like dual front airbags, ISOFIX munts and ABS with EBD as standard features. Apart from that, it also receives reverse parking camera, engine immobilizer etc. The Honda Amaze too comes with a range of safety features including dual front airbags, high-strength ACE body structure, ABS with EBD, seatbelt pre-tensioner with load limiters, engine immobilizer etc. Therefore, both the compact sedans come with generous amount of safety measures offering better protection to the occupants.

The 2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire is priced between Rs. 5.45 lakh and Rs. 9.41 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The Honda Amaze on the other hand is priced between Rs. 5.53 lakh and Rs. 8.44 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The Maruti Suzuki Dzire certainly comes slightly higher priced than the Honda Amaze, but considering the features on offer that seems pretty much justified.

2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire vs Honda Amaze – Comparison Verdict

Coming to the comparison verdict, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire is certainly well ahead of its rival with the newly adopted design, features on offer inside the cabin and as an overall package. The brand name of Maruti Suzuki is also an added advantage for the car, as this is the most trusted and most popular car brand in the country. The car itself has become very popular among the domestic buyers.

The Honda Amaze, on the other hand, is very practical, economical and well received model in the highly competitive segment, but this car has not been able to prove itself as a threat to the Maruti Suzuki Dzire. In terms of style, the car is not as much aesthetically attractive as the new Dzire is. Features on offer are not like the 2017 Maruti Dzire too.

New age customers always want value for money features and more premium equipment. The new Dzire from Maruti Suzuki has been able to understand that demand and it has been able to cater that accordingly. So far, we can predict that with the arrival of the new model, the Dzire will be able to strengthen its position in the segment against the Amaze.
