With the rise of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the mainstay Honda City over the years, Hyundai needed a new version of the Verna in order to reinvigorate the brand in the executive C-segment for sedans. Both Ciaz and City have been enduring majority of sales while Verna has to make do with less than one-fourth of their individual sales figures.
The new-gen Verna, which was launched in India on August 22, is being hoped to change the fortunes and it has an evolutionary approach to the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language. It has so far lived beyond its expectations as over 7,000 bookings were made in just over a week of its launch. The sales data for August showed 4,779 units but it beat both its fierce rivals City and Ciaz in the following two months as September accounted for 6,054 units and October with 4,701.
