2017 Honda CR-V unveiled in LA is more matured, wider and spacious; will be positioned higher with an optional 1.5-litre turbo engine

Honda has taken wrap off the all-new 2017 CR-V, and the car features a refreshed exterior and interior. As Honda claims, the fifth-generation Honda CR-V becomes much more premium than its predecessor. While, exterior and interior have gone through myriad of changes, the powertrain on offer is also pretty interesting, as Honda CR-V gets an optional turbocharged engine for the first time.

2017 Honda CR-V takes design cue from new-generation Honda Civic. Front fascia of the car looks aggressive with new Solid Wing grille. It gets dual chrome slats and honeycomb mesh, while headlamps have been revised as well. Sharp and sleeker headlamps feature LED units in the Touring trim, while wing-shaped LED daytime running lights enhance appeal.

Front bumper of the car looks muscular and gets large air intake, chrome trim around fog lamps, and a skid plate is there as well. At side profile 2017 Honda CR-V features unique designed sporty aluminum alloy wheels, thick side body cladding, turn indicator integrated ORVMs, chrome trim around glass area and sloping roofline. The rear sports sleek LED taillights, wide chrome bar, roof spoiler, shark-fin antenna twin round chrome tipped exhausts. Dimensionally also all-new Honda CR-V comes longer by 50.8 mm, which enhances space inside cabin.

Interior of 2017 Honda CR-V features a fresh appearance as well. It sports a revised multi-function steering wheel, uniquely design fully-digital instrument cluster. Centre console has been redesigned as well, and it features a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Honda claims, this car will offer best-in-class space and rear-seat legroom. Also, the car has been equipped with hands-free power tailgate, which is first in any Honda car.

On powertrain front too, 2017 Honda CR-V has surprising element, as it gets a turbocharged engine for the first time. The 1.5-litre turbocharged engine is shared with Honda Civic, and it churns out 190 hp of peak power and 242.69 Nm of peak torque. Apart from that, it gets a 2.4-litre i-VTEC petrol engine which kicks out 184 hp of peak power and 244 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duty is done by a CVT, while the car is offered with an optional AWD as well.

2017 Honda CR-V is equipped with several safety features as well. These safety features include multiple airbags, Auto High Beam headlamps, Forward Collision Warning, Collision Mitigation Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Detection etc.

The CR-V’s suspension features MacPherson front struts and a multi-link rear, with tubular anti-roll bars at the front and solid ones at the back. The 2017 CR-V will be built at three plants in North America: East Liberty, Ohio, and Greensburg, Indiana in the US and Alliston in Canada.
