Voting for the 2017 GaadiWaadi Reader’s Choice Awards has officially been closed and through these days we have had some impressive statistics for you, the beloved viewers to know. In just 20 days since the polling was announced, over 77,000 votes were received. There was tough battle for supremacy in categories such as Bike of the Year, SUV of the Year, Hardcore SUV of the Year, VFM Package of the Year, 2Wheeler Design of the Year, Sportscar of the Year and Sportsbike of the Year.
We are overwhelmed by the increased participation every year and would like to thank all our voters for making it a grand success. With a huge fanbase and readership, GaadiWaadi.com is now India’s top most news blog with over 10 million monthly page views. By the end of this year, our target is to double this figure and serve you with all the essential happenings from the Indian as well as international automobile industry as ever!
The three vehicles that have lured most number of votes are Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, TVS Apache 200 4V and Aprilia SR150. Let us run through the winners in each category: First the all-important 2017 GWRCA Indian Car of the Year goes to none other than Maruti Suzuki’s compact SUV, the Vitara Brezza with nearly quarter of votes polled in its favour.
With over 50 percent of voters agreeing, the Vitara Brezza has been chosen as SUV of the Year as well ahead of Hyundai Tucson with 38.08 percent votes. However, the Brezza was outsmarted by Datsun RediGo with 34.67 percent acknowledging it in the VFM Package of the Year category. Isuzu D-Max V-Cross clinches best Crossover crown while the much deserved Tata Tiago received 58.58 percent to win the Hatchback of the Year award.
It was a nip-and-tuck contest between the new Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour as the former came out just on top with 50.82 percent of voters cast their support over Endeavour’s 49.18 percent – losing by a whisker. Jaguar F-Pace sailed over the competition and attained 2017 GWRCA Premium SUV of the Year award while despite threat from the XE and 7-Series, Volvo S90 has been voted as the Premium Car of the Year with 29.71 percent polling in support of appreciation.
The 2017 GaadiWaadi Reader’s Choice UV of the Year is undoubtedly Toyota Innova Crysta with it grabbing 80.76 percent votes. Hyundai’s new Elantra has risen above intense competition from Vitara Brezza and S90 to claim Design of the Year. The domestic auto industry saw two global big guns stepping into the sportscar segment last year as Ford Mustang and Nissan GT-R fought for honours tooth-and-nail. But in the end, there could be only one winner and it is the Godzilla.
With 37.58 percent, Mahindra e2o Plus laid its hands firm on the Green Car of the Year award ahead of the expensive Honda Accord Hybrid. The Indian two-wheeler industry witnessed launch of several exciting products last year as manufacturers delved deep to summon their authority in the premium segments. A new beginning needs a modern take on a vintage player and fittingly our readers have elected the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V as the Bike of the Year with 35.56 percent votes.
In other categories, Aprilia SR150 has been chosen as Scooter of the Year, Triumph Bonneville Street Twin as Premium Bike of the Year, Ducati Panigale 959 as Sportsbike of the Year and Bajaj V15 as 2W Design of the Year. As the Indian auto sector is expected to scale new heights this calendar year, we are hoping for a rigorous competition in our next edition of GaadiWaadi Reader’s Choice Awards as well. But until then, our hearty congratulations to all the winners!
