The new Gurkha gets a retuned engine besides a host of cosmetic and styling updates
Force Motors has launched the BS-IV version of Gurkha for the Indian car market. To give more options to the customers, the rugged SUV has been launched in a total of three trims. Force Gurkha is now available at the company’s dealerships across India at a starting price of Rs. 8.45 lakh that reaches up till Rs. 11.48 lakh for the top end trim (both prices, ex-showroom, Delhi).
To be precise, Force Motors has launched the new Gurkha under two categories namely Xplorer and Xpedition. Out of these, the former is further available in two options viz 3-door and 5-door. On the other hand, the Xpedition is available with 5-door option only. While the Xplorer gets a 4×4 drive system, the Xpedition had to stay content with a 4×2 unit.
Digging further into the details of the variants, the Force Gurkha Xplorer gets an option of hard top and soft top along with 3-door and 5-door options, as already mentioned. With this, the vehicle can seat a maximum of five and seven people respectively. On the other hand, the Xpedition comes with 5 doors and can accommodate a total of nine people. The reason for this is that the Xplorer is a sub four metre model and has a length of 3,992 mm. On the parallel, the Xpedition is longer with a total length of 4,342 mm.
The biggest change in the new Gurkha is the inclusion of a new BS-IV engine. To meet the purpose, the older 2.6-litre diesel mill has been retuned and it now sheds out respective power and torque of 85 bhp and 230 Nm.
