Audi Q3 petrol gets power from a 1.4-litre TFSI engine found in the A3 Cabriolet making 150 PS and 250 Nm of peak torque

Just over two weeks following the launch of updated Q3, Audi has strengthened its Indian portfolio with the introduction of petrol engine to the baby SUV. This marks the German brand’s fourth launch in 2017 as it gets serious about taking the luxury segment’s sales crown from the dominant Mercedes-Benz.

Audi did make tweaks to its 2.0-litre TDI Quattro engine when the MY2017 Q3 arrived earlier this month. The power output was increased by 7 horses to 184 hp while the torque remained the same at 380 Nm in Quattro version while the less powerful FWD model became more fuel efficient. The manual gearbox was sacrificed and a dual-clutch seven-speed automatic transmission drives both the axles or just the front.

This entry-level SUV is the first from the Q range to come equipped with a petrol engine. The motor is a tiny 1.4-litre TFSI that can be found under the bonnet of A3 Cabrio launched recently.

It is turbocharged to produce a maximum power output of 150 PS at 5,100 rpm and 250 Nm torque at 1,250 rpm. The engine is connected to a new six-speed S Tronic automatic gearbox as standard. Unlike the diesel-powered Q3, Audi does not offer four-wheel-drive variant with the petrol version. The FWD model is claimed to return a fuel economy of 16.9 kmpl.
