2016 Volvo V40 and V40 Cross Country Facelifts revealed; set to debut at 2016 Geneva Motor Show with interior and exterior revisions

Volvo has updated its V40 hatchback and V40 Cross Country luxury crossover to stand in line with the rest of its model range in terms of design. The interior tweaks have been made as well as Model Year 2017 upgrades across the various trim levels. As for the exterior styling, the front fascia gets a new grille meshes incorporated with the Volvo Iron Mark badging.

The V40 and its sibling will now be visually identical with the entire range of Volvo models as the front end is treated with ‘Thor’s Hammer’ headlights’ sharing looks with the S90 sedan, recently revealed V90 estate and the XC90 flagship SUV. Unlike in India, the V40 has been Volvo’s best-selling model in European markets as well as the second highest-selling model worldwide for the Swedish brand.

Volvo has added two new colours to the existing V40 line-up with the Amazon Blue and Denim Blue while the Mussel Blue, Bursting Blue and Luminous Sand colour scheme from other models in the portfolio will also be included for the facelifted V40 and V40 Cross Country. The outside modifications will be concluded with the inclusion of eight new alloy wheel designs for the V40, R-Design and V40 Cross Country models and follows ‘rank marks’ debuted on the XC90 SUV to identify variants and trim levels.

On the inside, new upholstery known as City Weave, derived from the shooting-brake body styled Concept Estate displayed at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, has been added. It will be joined by the new Charcoal/Blond steering wheel option and the different panel trims to be offered are Milled Aluminium, Black Grid Aluminium and Stealth Aluminium.
The optional black headliner has been introduced for the V40 along with accent trim colours in the door inserts with contrast stitching and an updated key fob with Volvo logo on it.

New Inscription trims levels and tread plates for R-Design will be made available and Volvo worked on the fuel efficient D2 diesel engine to further reduce CO2 emission levels to 89 g/km compared to the outgoing model’s 94 g/km. The Volvo On Call smartphone app has been updated with Flic button compatibility, extended support for as many as 10 Volvo vehicles, calendar integration function and Microsoft Band 2 Connectivity to enable voice control using Windows 10 smartphones besides the already available Apple Watch/Android Wear wearable connectivity. The instrument panels will be highlighted with CleanZone logo as the award-winning technology purifies the air before entering the cabin for occupants’ inhalation.

Volvo Auto India launched the petrol-powered Cross Country (Rs. 27 lakh) last April followed by the launches of the V40 hatchback (Rs. 24.75 lakh, ex-showroom price)and its R-design version (Rs. 27.7 Lakh, ex-showroom price) in June. The upgraded V40 and V40 Country Cross are expected to be revealed for the Indian market during the final quarter of 2016 or in the beginning of 2017 and their world premiere has been slated for the next week’s Geneva Motor Show.
