2016 Toyota Fortuner will have two engine options on offer, 2.4-litre and 2.8-litre
Toyota Fortuner has had a cult following of its own from quite a while in the country as well as globally. The SUV hasn’t got itself a revamp for quite a while now and now Toyota is all set to reveal the Fortuner in its next generation guise. The upcoming 2016 Toyota Fortuner has just had itself leaked in its next generation guise. The SUV has been leaked completely in live images and there’s hardly anything about the exteriors which hasn’t leaked.
The 2016 Toyota Fortuner will bow in on July 17, almost six years after the previous generation model. The new Fortuner will continue to use a body-on-chasis construction. As you can see from the spy shots, the front fascia of the SUV gets a prominent grille with horizontal chrome slats. There is a generous amount of chrome present on the car and the same can be seen even around the fog lamps.
At the rear, it gets wraparound tail lamps. You can also see a chrome strip running between the duo. The pillars of the SUV have been blackened out. A black plastic cladding can also be seen which is present all around the car. The SUV will further get a rear spoiler and will ride on what look like 18-inch alloy wheels.
Powering the SUV will be two new engines under the new GD family of engine. The two engine options on offer have a capacity of 2.4-litre and 2.8-litre. The 2.4-litre unit comes with Variable Geometry Turbo (VGT) and has a power output of 160 bhp with the peak torque being 400 Nm. The other engine option will be a 2.8-litre unit with VGT which churns out a maximum power of 177 bhp and a peak torque of 450 Nm. They will be offered with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission in two-wheel as well as four-wheel drive guises.
It is expected that 2016 Toyota Fortuner to bow into India in the first half of 2016 with a price tag around the Rs 23-25 lakh mark.
