2016 Hyundai Tucson, revealed at the Geneva Motor Show last year, is very popular in various markets worldwide

The Korean manufacturer, Hyundai, is on a roll in India after launching the instantly successful Creta and it looks like it wants more share from the SUV category with how it’s been selling. Creta’s instant success is one of the many reasons why this SUV is coming back to the country. Tucson has been sold in India a decade back and did not go well as the styling and package along with several other factors weren’t on its side.

The 2015 Hyundai Tucson looks extremely promising and wants to go against the likes of domestic SUV manufacturers Tata and Mahindra. Worldwide, the Tucson is a super hit and the Hyundai had to increase production at its factory in South Korea. The SUV will be brought into the country via CBU, the same way the Elantra, Santa Fe and Sonata has been coming.

India Launch Date & Expected price

The mid-size SUV will debut at the Auto Expo 2016 and launch will follow post the unveil in the year 2016 itself. Prices should start from 13 lakhs onwards and can reach almost Rs.19-20 lakhs

Tucson Engine, Specification & Mileage

A 1.6 or 1.8 new diesel or tried and tested 2.0l engine will make it to the engine bay making 140-150 BHP. The engine will be mated to a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox. Petrol engine is also likely to make it given the fact emission norms in some states don’t allow for diesel. We expect it to deliver around 15-16 km/l on the diesel and 10-12 km/l on the petrol variant. Expect automatic gearbox equipped engines to deliver slightly less than these numbers.

Hyundai Tucson Exterior & Dimensions

Dimension:
Just above 4325 in length, 1800 in width and 1730mm in height means it is has the dimensions of the Verna and the stance of a SUV. Should help in getting a lot of space inside and also the boot.

Exterior Designing:
The Tucson is a very impressive, swoopy and high stance SUV to come from the Korean factory. Hints of car-like design, perfectly coordinated in the SUV, gives a soft-roader desirable aesthetics. The baby Santa Fe does look very appealing and this segment shows signs it is very much driven by good looking cars.

Colours:
We expect white, black, purple, red and silver to be a part of the main stream palette and a few other mixtures can be expected.

2016 Hyundai Tucson Interior & Features

Interior & Features:
High quality interiors as always with all Hyundai should come with the car. space in all two rows should be in good amount and boot space should be accommodating as well as it around the 400 litre mark. Features are also expected in abundance such as all connectivity options, ABS and EBD along with, dual-stage frontal impact airbags, torso side-impact airbags built into the front seats, and curtain airbags for side-impact protection for front and rear passengers should also come to India as well.

2016 Hyundai Tucson Key Rivals

This SUV suggest that it wants to fill the healthy gap that the mid-size utility segment offers. The Tuscon will go against the likes of Mahindra XUV500 and Tata Safari Storme. Earlier rumors suggested that the company had plans to get a brand new mid-size SUV like the Tucson for India just like how the Creta, i20 and Grand i10 are being made.

The SUV if came would have used the Tucson platform as well but would have been localized and made value for money as costs could have come down. However, this segment isn’t much of volumes game either. XUV 500 manages just 4000 units a month and eating a pie in that does not seem feasible for a locally produced car when there is already a global best seller present in the stable.

Hyundai Tucson can take the market from the XUV 500 which is the best seller and currently one of the best package in the market. Only if Hyundai can get the pricing right and keep it stable forever then it can achieve long term success and trust of the customers in India.
