Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI) has launched the 2016 Honda Dio scooter today. The Dio is one of the highly successful products the Japanese manufacturer has been selling in India and the new model will be sold at an ex-showroom, Delhi price of Rs. 48,264. The company says there is no increase in price as it is same as that of its predecessor.

The Honda Dio has a large fan base among the youths of the country ever since it was introduced in the market 14 years ago. Described as the original ‘moto-scooter’, Honda says the 2016 Honda Dio will carry forward the legacy of the vehicle with the aggressiveness of the motorcycle and riding convenience of the scooter.

In the wake of the Honda Dio entering the exclusive million customers club, the company has revealed the 2016 model with an added colour scheme. The new Matt Axis Grey paint job will be accompanied by a premium 3D emblem. In addition to the new colour, the Dio will be available in existing four colours – Jazzy Blue Metallic, Candy Palm Green, Sports Red and Black.

The 2016 Honda Dio is the sixth new model from Honda so far this year and it flutters the flag for the brand in being the number one export model produced locally. As part of Honda 2Wheelers India’s ‘Make in India, For the World’ strategy, the Dio is being shipped to neighboring nations like Sri Lanka and Nepal alongside Colombia in Latin America and Mexico in South America. The export plans are set to be expanded in the future as well.

The 2016 Honda Dio doesn’t come with any mechanical change as the proven 109.2 cc single-cylinder, four-stroke, air-cooled engine mated with V-Matic transmission is good enough to produce a maximum power output of 8 bhp at 7,000 rpm and 8.77 Nm of peak torque delivered at 5,500 rpm. It also weighs 105 kilos and has a claimed fuel efficiency of 66 kmpl thanks to the Honda Eco Technology. It has a rated top speed of 83 kmph and can hold up to 5.3 litres of fuel in the tank.
