2016 Delhi Auto Expo : Top 10 Concept Cars

Hyundai Carlino Concept: The Hyundai Carlino concept showcased at the Auto Expo 2016 will be responsible for a sub-4m SUV from the South Korean manufacturer. We reported yesterday that the SUV will be launched in 2017 to challenge against Ford EcoSport, Mahindra TUV300, upcoming Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the likes. Sitting between the i20 Active crossover and Hyundai Creta premium SUV, the production model is more likely to share components with the i20’s platform whilst being powered by the 1.2-litre Kappa VTVT petrol and 1.4-litre CRDI diesel engines. Chevrolet Beat Activ: Based on the next generation Beat hatchback, the Chevrolet Beat Activ concept will instigate a crossover version of the affordable hatchback for the Indian market. It may adopt similar mechanicals as the small hatch with 1.2-litre SMARTECH Petrol and a 1.0-litre SMARTECH Diesel engines mated to a five speed manual transmission. The funky exteriors will be compounded by the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system on the inside along with several other techs to take the fight to hatchback-derived crossovers such as the segment-leading Hyundai i20 Active, VW Cross Polo and Toyota Etios Cross. Maruti Suzuki Ignis Concept: Slated to be launched this September, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis will measure about 3,700 mm in length, 1,660 mm in width, 1,595 mm in height, 180 mm ground clearance and a wheelbase of 2,435 mm. Taking design details from the i-M4 concept, it will be powered by a 1.2-litre K-series petrol and 1.3-litre DDiS 200 turbocharged diesel motors. It will be up against the recently launched Mahindra KUV100 and comes shod on 15-inch standard or 16-inch alloy wheels whilst safety features likes ABS with EDB and airbags are expected to be provided as standard. Mahindra XUV Aero Concept: The XUV Aero concept had apparently been the show-stopper from Mahindra and Mahindra at the motor show. It went on to prove the capacity of an Indian manufacturer in carving out a high-standard premium SUV. The concept had coupe-ish roofline with an aggressive overall stance and imposing structure. Previewing a futuristic model from Mahindra’s stable, the Aero concept comprised of strong shoulder lines, flared wheel arches with cuts and creases extending to the back in an uppish angle. Developed by Indian designers, it had wider windshield at the front and horizontal tail lamps sheltered ahead of the various edges at the rear-end. Fiat Avventura Urban Cross Concept: The Fiat Avventura Urban Cross concept revealed at the Expo was powered by the powerful 1.4-litre T-jet petrol developing 140 hp and 210 Nm of peak torque coupled with a five-speed manual gearbox. It had similar proportions to the Avventura crossover with a restyled exterior and comes fitted with a silver-lined prominent front grille, metallic skid plates, chrome-covered fog lamp enclosures and LED head lamps. Bolted on with 17-inch alloy wheels, it hasd elegant roof rails with LED lighting, revised LED optic guide tail lamps and ORVMs with turn indicators. The Urban Cross could spawn the next generation Avventura crossover with more customers leaning towards the new segment in recent times. Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS Concept: The Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS was powered by 1.0-litre three-cylinder Boosterjet petrol engine producing a maximum power output of 110 bhp and 170 Nm of peak torque at the Auto Expo. The concept displayed will bring up a production model later this year to take on hot-hatch rivals such as Volkswagen Polo GT TSI and Fiat Abarth Punto. It is built on a new lightweight and flexible platform and gets a bold design package. The tuned up powertrain will be coupled with a five-speed manual transmission and will get disc brakes at the rear. Renault Kwid Racer: The Renault Kwid Racer is the track-focussed version of the regular model that has reportedly received 90,000 bookings in the Indian market. The French manufacturer had gone to certain lengths to get this special edition version stand apart from the affordable stock hatchback. It sits on 18-inch alloy wheels and has low-profile tyres with sportier bucket seats and a roll cage for crash protection. It features wider air inlets, rear spoiler and diffuser. On the inside, it sported Alcantara seat covers alongside aluminum and carbon accents with centre console displaying performance details. Mahindra Thar DayBreak Edition: The Thar Daybreak Edition was one of the main highlights of the Auto Expo 2016 from Mahindra’s Adventure zone. It featured a huge 37-inch off-road tyres, matte grey body panels with day break sunlight red accents, heavy-duty electric winch, customised steel bumpers and rock sliders, rally seats, rear axle differential lock technology and a roll over bar. Against standard Thar 4x4, it was equipped with round-shaped LED front headlamps, redesigned transverse rear cabin seat, re-modified bodywork, wing mirrors mounted up the A pillars, prominent twin exhausts, huge spare wheel, air scoops on the large bonnet, vertically slated huge grille, increased ride height and beefed up suspension. The Thar DayBreak Edition was propelled by the same 2498 cc NEF TCI- CRDe four-cylinder diesel unit pumping out 105 bhp at 3,800 rpm and 247 Nm of peak torque at 1,800 rpm. The power is transferred to all four wheels via five-speed manual gearbox. Audi Prologue Concept: Audi Prologue concept was the enormous limousine-sized two door luxury coupe that had certainly left its mark at the Auto Expo. Measuring about the same proportions as the Mercedes S-class, it gave a preview into the design language of the next generation Audi A8. It gets power from the 4.0-litre TFSI V8 petrol engine that develops 605 hp of maximum power output and 700 Nm of peak torque with a Quattro 4WD system. Sending power to all four wheels was through an eight-speed tiptronic automatic gearbox. Packed with technologies, it can go from 0 to 100 kph in as little as 3.7 seconds. Tata Kite 5 Sedan: Tata Motors’ Indigo eCS successor is the Kite 5 sedan showcased at the Auto Expo. The sub-four metre sedan has stubby rear end and accommodates a generous 420 litres of bootspace. Competing against Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Ford Figo Aspire, upcoming VW Ameo and Hyundai Xcent in the ultra-tight sub-compact sedan segment, the Tata Kite 5 appears to be well proportioned and retained the cuteness of the Zest. The engines powering the Kite 5 are similar to that of the Zica hatchback it’s based on. The 1.2-litre REVOTRON three-cylinder MPFI petrol unit delivers 85 PS at 6,000 rpm and 114 Nm of peak torque at 3,500 rpm. The 1.05-litre REVOTORQ three-cylinder CRDI engine makes 70 PS at 4,000 rpm and 140 Nm of peak torque between 1,800 rpm and 3,000 rpm.
