2016 Auto Expo : Maruti Suzuki Ignis Unveiled, to launch with 1.2-L Petrol Engine & 1.3-L Diesel Engine

The Ignis concept that would make way for a sub-four metre comapct crossover has been revealed at the ongoing Auto Expo 2016. The Maruti Suzuki Ignis is based on a lightweight platform, which helps in 30% stiffer chassis, that underpins Baleno premium hatchback. It measures 3,700 mm in length, 1,660 mm in width, 1,595 mm in height, 180 mm ground clearance and a wheelbase of 2,435 mm. It could be sold at the premium Nexa outlets spread across the country and has a credible 258 litres of bootspace with rear seats are up and 415 litres when folded down.

Derived from the i-M4 concept, the production version of India-bound Ignis was first showcased at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. It gets powered by the four-valves-per-head, inline, four-cylinder, DOHC petrol power unit has a displacement of 1197 cc. The VVT, K-series petrol engine, also found under the engine bay of Swift, is capable of pushing out a maximum power of 83 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 115 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm.

The 1.3-litre DDiS 200 turbocharged diesel engine, also does duty in the Swift and Baleno, can churn out 74 bhp of maximum power output at 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm of peak torque at 2,000 rpm. Both engines will be mated to a five-speed manual gearbox with CVT automatic offered in petrol variants only.

The 15-inch alloy wheels will be standard whilst a 16-inch will be offered as optional. The Ignis will rival against the recently launched Mahindra KUV100 and will get ABS and EBD as standard equipment besides driver and co-passenger airbag as option on the base versions. The domestic market launch is likely to happen in September 2016 and it will come available with two wheel drive as standard and four-wheel drive system as optional.
