2016 Audi A4 launched with 1.4-litre turbo-four TFSI petrol engine developing maximum power of 150 PS and 250 Nm peak torque
Audi India has its best-selling A4 entry-level luxury sedan competing against the Mercedes-Benz C-Class in the hotly contested domestic market. While Mercedes has been introducing new products in numbers, Audi waited for some time and finally revealed the B9 version. The new A4 starts at a price of Rs. 38.1 lakh for the Premium Plus and Rs. 41.2 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom Delhi) has been quoted for the Technology variant.
The German automaker conducted the Indian premiere of the new generation A4 sedan at the Auto Expo 2016 earlier this year. Codenamed Audi B9, the new A4 entered sale in Europe last year rivalling against fierce rivals in the segment such as BMW S-Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Volvo S60. The fifth-generation A4 will be a significant model in terms of sales perspective as the last version has been a big seller over the years.

Making world premiere at the 2015 Frankfort Motor Show, the new A4 sedan is built on the brand’s front-wheel drive second-generation MLB Evo platform. Constructed on a lightweight body, it weighs 120 kilograms lesser than the outgoing model. For foreign markets, the sharper styling comes with fuel efficient engines as seven different engine options include two diesel motors, four-cylinder turbo petrol and V6 engines.
The India-spec A4 comprises of a single petrol engine as the 1.4-litre turbo-four TFSI petrol engine found in the Octavia generates 150 PS and 250 Nm torque. It is mated to a redeveloped seven-speed dual-clutch S-tronic automatic transmission transferring power to the front wheels. The Euro 6 complaint engine has been rated to return a fuel economy of 17.84 km per litre.

Features like seven-inch MMI interface with smartphone integration, new 17-inch alloy wheels, Xenon headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lights, Audi drive select and triple-zone automatic climate control are offered as standard alongside optional Audi Virtual Cockpit system. It measures 4,726 mm in length, 1,842 mm in width, 1,427 mm in height and features a wheelbase of 2,820 mm. It is 25 mm longer, 16 mm wider and has a wheelbase 12 mm longer than the existing A4.
