2015 Frankfurt Auto Show – VW Group Night

At VW group night, many debuts from Bentley, Audi, Lamborghini, Porsche, Bugatti, Seat, Skoda and Volkswagen

The VW group has taken the ongoing Frankfurt motor show as an opportunity to showcase a slew of cars. The German company has left no stone unturned and has unveiled 10 new cars in VW Group Night from the various brands it has under its purview. VW has something in store for everyone in store and has ensured that there’s something for everyone on offer. Let us take a look at what all has VW launched.

Bugatti

Bugatti Vision GT

The Bugatti Veyron has reached the end of its production and the company is busy these days working on its successor. Just to give the world a hint of what the upcoming car may look like, Bugatti has showcased a 1:1 scale model of the Bugatti Vision GT.

The Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo pays homage to the racing tradition and victories of the 1920s and 1930s in Le Mans-24 hour races. The interior gets matte blue and carbon fibe accents with leather upholstery. The steering wheel gets a display which constantly keeps on showing vehicle information. The driver constantly keeps on seeing a stitched camera feed from three cameras present on the surroundings of the car.

The power figures of the technical details haven’t been revealed. The car is estimated to go up to a speed of more than 400 kmph courtesy of its 8.0 litre W16 engine. The car is still about an year away from hitting production. But once it does, there’s no stopping it.

Bentley

Bentley Bentayga

Bentley unveiled what it calls is the most “the most powerful, most luxurious, most exclusive and fastest SUV in the world”. The Bentayga moniker brings with a twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre W12 engine under the hood and it brings oodles of luxury with it.

The company claims that it has the finest automotive cabin and we couldn’t agree more with them. It churns out 590 PS of maximum power and 720 Nm of peak torque. The Bentayga does the 0-100 kmph in 4.8 seconds before touching a top whack of 305 kmph.

Lamborghini

Lamborghini Huracan Spyder

The Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4 Spyder is the answer to Ferrari 488 Spider and McLaren 650S Spider and has been awaited for a while now. The Huracan Spyder gets a naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 motor which produces 602 Hp of power and 560 Nm of torque.

The weight increases in this model a bit to 1,542 kgs and it will do the 100 kmph dash in merely 3.4 seconds. The fabric rooftop folds away in 17 seconds at speeds of up to 48 kmph.

Porsche

Porsche 911 Carrera S

Porsche 911 Carrera S continues to remain the same on the outside as always with bare minimum changes when it to cosmetic part. Overall silhouette has changed with front and rear bumpers seeing a massive change. Turbocharged engines are the biggest change as they replace old singing naturally aspirated engines. 3.0L flat six now makes 365 BHP on the base Carrera. Carrera S gets 414 BHP.

Porsche says teh soul is not lost as the engine has a very high limit for a turbocharged engine at 7500 RPM. LED daylight running lamps from the 918 and twin projector alignment remains unique. New type of vents and grill are added to the Carrera S with a new rear engine cover along with newly designed LED lamps are here as well.

Porsche Electric Mission E concept

Porsche showcased the Mission E electric concept at the Frankfurt motor show. The Mission E is powered by an 800-volt drive system which churns out 600 Hp and does the 0-100 kmph in 3.5 seconds.

The concept car can travel 500 kms on a single charge and can be charged 80 percent in merely 15 minutes. The Mission E electric concept can be charged at a 400-volt quick-charging station that can even be replenished at homes via induction.

Volkswagen

2017 Volkswagen Tiguan

The new Tiguan shares its underpinnings with the Volkswagen Golf and Audi A3. You now get 236 horses under the hood instead of the earlier 200 and it is 24 percent more fuel efficient than the outgoing variant.

Tiguan has a similar design philosophy in terms of interiors with the Golf but scores higher in the safety department as it gets emergency city braking, pedestrian monitoring and lane assist.

VW Multivan Panamericana Edition

The Multivan Panamerican Edition has been designed to serve over 400 purposes. It comes with exclusive exterior touches with a twin-turbo diesel engine under the hood.

It outputs 204 hp and 450 Nm of torque and is mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox which sends power to all its wheels. It rides on 18-inch wheels and gets a new livery with a contrasting body cladding.

Audi

Audi E-Tron Quattro Concept

Come 2018, Audi will sell its first electric SUV in 2018. It showcased the E-Tron Quattro Concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show which has three electric motors that have a total power output of 429 hp and it goes up till 496 hp.

The torque on offer is 590 Nm. It will go till 100 kmph in merely 4.6 seconds and the top speed will be electronically limited to 210 kmph.

Audi A4 G-tron

The Audi A4 G-Tron is nothing but a CNG equipped petrol engine that makes 168 BHP and does 500 km to the range. When the CNG runs out the petrol engine is capable of giving 450 kms from its petrol fuel tank. The car isn’t going to made available in India or the US and is strictly for European markets.

The Audi G-Tron is available in Avant form only to make for two fuel tanks. A total range of almost 1000 kms from a petrol engine combined with CNG and with petrol prices coming down, you can have the fun of petrol and enjoy the economy with smoking diesel.

Seat

Seat Leon Cross Sport concept

The Seat Leon Cross Sport concept broke cover too at the show. The two-door hatchback according to the company is like a “performance athlete in high-tech trekking shoes.

Under the hood is a 2.0-litre TSI engine which will have a power output of 300 PS and the torque output is 380 Nm. The power is sent to all the four wheels via a 6-speed DSG gearbox.

Skoda

Skoda Superb Combi Sportline

The Skoda Superb Combi Sportline bowed in at the Frankfurt motor show too. The new variants comes with revised exteriors, tinted rear windows, 18/19-inch alloy wheels with a black finish and an increase in ride height by 15mm over the regular Superb Combi.

The interiors get a leather wrapper steering wheel, aluminium pedals and sportier seating. It will be available for all the engines in the lineup barring the base 1.4 litre TSI and 1.6 litre TDI motors
