Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Facelift

The midsize sedan segment in Indian market has seen a massive boost with the arrival of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. The segment where there are several strong rivals like Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid, Honda City and Hyundai Verna are present, Ciaz has earned respect and positive response from the buyers with its premium appearance and loads of upmarket features along with efficient powertrains. Now, the Indo-Japanese automaker is preparing to roll out the Ciaz facelift in the country that is expected to be launched during 2018 New Delhi Auto Expo. The top trims of this car will be positioned between Rs. 10 lakh – Rs. 15 lakh slab.

Apart from styling and features, Maruti Suzuki has clearly attempted to position it in the premium segment by starting selling the car through its Nexa dealerships. In terms of design, the facelifted model will get subtle but significant changes. It will come with a revised front grille, sharper headlamps with projector lamps and integrated LED daytime running lights. The front bumper is likely to be updated with a revised air intake along with black fog lamp housing.

At the side profile, alloy wheels are likely to come with new design. Apart from that no major change is expected. In that case, it will have the turn indicator integrated ORVMs, blackened glass area, chrome finished door handles, subtle character lines and a nicely curved roofline. The rear could get revised taillights and a slightly updated bumper as well.

Dimensionally the facelifted version of the sedan is expected to remain same as the current model. This means it will offer same space to occupants inside the cabin, but with improved quality seat and upholstery the comfort level is likely to be increased. The new Ciaz will come with a touchscreen infotainment system at the centre console with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Apart from that, it will have a multi-function steering wheel, analog and digital display consisting instrument cluster.

On the powertrain front too, updated Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is likely to come with the same engine options. It will be available in both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol model will have a all new 1.5-litre engine under the hood, while the diesel model will get a 1.3-litre DDiS unit with SHVS technology. The petrol engine is capable of churning out 102 bhp of peak power at 6,000 rpm. The diesel model generates 89 bhp at 4,000 rpm and 200 Nm of peak torque at 1,750 rpm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 4-speed automatic unit as well in Petrol.

Mahindra XUV300

Mahindra is undoubtedly the biggest SUV manufacturer in the country and it has a strong hold in the Indian SUV market. The brand is presently aiming to roll out couple of more SUVs that will come with contemporary fresh design and upmarket features compared to the current crop of Mahindra cars. In order to make these cars, Mahindra is taking help from its South Korean subsidiary SsangYong and famous Italian design house Pininfarina, which was acquired by the homegrown auto major few months back.

One of the upcoming products from the automaker is XUV300, based on the SsangYong Tivoli. It shares the X100 platform which underpins SsangYong’s popular car Tivoli. Expect the XUV300 to make debut at the 2018 New Delhi Auto Expo and it will be positioned under Mahindra’s current flagship model XUV500. This SUV will come bearing Mahindra signature styling and will take design cue from the XUV500.

Up front, this SUV will sport a heavily chrome garnished aggressive looking radiator grille with vertical slats. The sharp headlamps will sport projector lamps and integrated LED daytime running lights with pearl string ling design. The front bumper will appear muscular and bold looking incorporating a large air intake, rectangular fog lamps at both ends.

There will be a skid plate emphasising on the toughness of the SUV. At the side profile, it would get sporty alloy wheels, chrome finished door handles, turn indicator integrated ORVMs, blackened glass area and flared fenders. Rear too is likely to draw inspiration from XUV500 and sport vertically positioned taillights, a roof spoiler and chunky bumper. Interior of this SUV is likely to sport a premium vibe with touchscreen infotainment system featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, upmarket quality seat and upholstery materials.

Power source for the Mahindra XUV300 would be a 1.5-litre TGDi petrol engine and there would be a 2.0-litre mHawk diesel engine as well. The petrol engine would churn out power output between 90 bhp and 120 bhp, while torque output would be between 130 Nm and 150 Nm. The 2.0-litre diesel engine is capable of pumping out 140 bhp of peak power and 320 Nm of peak torque. Also, there would be a 84 bhp generating 1.5-litre diesel engine as well developed in collaboration with SsangYong. Transmission options will include a 5-speed MT, a 6-speed MT and a 6-speed automatic gearbox as well.

2018 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga

The second generation of Ertiga made its global debut at Indonesia International Motor Show last month. The Indo-Japanese manufacturer has already commenced road testing of new generation Ertiga in India. For the second generation model, Suzuki has given new Heartect platform for Ertiga which made its debut in Baleno. This platform helps Ertiga to shed some weight and make it more efficient than the previous model.

The new model of Ertiga is longer and wider than the outgoing model as the company want to improve third row space which is lacking right now. The design of Ertiga is completely new and different but the body shape continues to be same. The front get new wider grille with Suzuki logo in the middle and swept back headlamps extend to the grille.
The design of front bumper gives the impression of a much wider car and from some angles the Ertiga looks like MPV segment leader which is Toyota Innova Crysta.

On the side, Suzuki has given a new shoulder line which starts from front wheel arches and continues to the tail lamps. The design of third row glass is also similar to Innova. Suzuki has given a big tail lamp for Ertiga which took inspiration from Volvo cars and it is integrated into the tail gate. Suzuki has given chrome finish on the top of number plate holder and the bumper is also new. Overall, the design of Ertiga is grown up and premium. The interior continues the new theme from outside as the company has given beige colour for the interior which increases airy feel of the cabin.

The dashboard design took inspirations from Audi but it goes well with the overall design of Ertiga. Like other MPVs, the Ertiga now get roof mounted AC vents as it will be more effective in MPV models. Mahindra U321

Mahindra was one of the popular players in the MPV segment with Xylo which was competing well with previous generation Innova. But the company gave more importance to other segments and forgot the Xylo as the model didn’t get much update. Mahindra is coming back to MPV segment with a new model which is currently under development and it will replace Xylo.

The new MPV will be a global model and the development is currently going in India and Detroit. Mahindra codenamed the new MPV as U321 and the prototypes have been spied so many times in public roads. The design of U321 is going to be completely new and different from other products from the Indian manufacturer.

The front get signature toothed grille along with swept headlamps with black bezels. The DRLs will be integrated above fog lamp housing and the air-vents are massive which gives the impression of a wider car. Mahindra has given small hood and the side design appears to be similar like Innova. The U321 is expected to come with 16 inch alloy wheels. At the rear, the MPV come with vertical style tail lights with LEDs for the modern touch along with a new tail gate and bumper.

The interior of U321 has already been spied revealing the design. The company has given black and beige colour combination for the interior. The design of the dashboard is modern with piano black finish for the centre console. The U321 comes with three spoke steering wheel shared from TUV 300. The centre console get touch screen and AC controls are placed below it.

Mahindra has integrated the gear knob into the centre console which free up space below it for cup holders. We can expect the U321 to be loaded with features like touch screen infotainment system with Android Auto, climate control, steering mounted controls, leather seats, key less entry, push button start, projector headlamps and more.

The U321 is expected to be powered by a new diesel engine with help from Ssangyong. The 1.6 or 2.0 L diesel engine will produce around 125-150 hp of power and around 300 Nm of torque. The MPV will also come with a petrol engine option and it could be the new 2.2 L engine from Xylo. Mahindra will offer manual and automatic options with U321. The MPV will compete against Toyota Innova Crysta and the launch will take place later this year.

Tata H5X

Tata H5X SUV Concept showcased at 2018 India Auto Expo

Tata Motors officially showcased H5X concept at the 2018 Auto Expo in Delhi. The H5X is going to be new flagship SUV of the Indian manufacturer. The road testing of H5X has already commenced earlier this year and it is going to be based on Land Rover Discovery L550 platform which is why the company was testing components of H5X under Discovery Sport body during the initial phase of development.

The head of design at Tata Motors confirmed that most of the design elements from concept model will make it to production version also. The front grille is small which connects with new swept back headlamps which is again small. The bumper design is imposing with skid plates on the lower part and the ground clearance is also going to be higher which will give an SUV look for the H5X.

The side design continues the aggressive theme with large wheel arches and big wheels. While the rear will get LED tail lamps and skid plates to continue the SUV theme. The floor is going to be shared with Discovery Sport but Tata Motors will make lots of changes as they don’t want it to be feels like a Land Rover.

Instead of expensive materials, the H5X will use aluminium and high strength steel for the body parts as these provide rigidity and they don’t weigh much. The interior of H5X will be premium which can be confirmed from the interior spy shots. Tata Motors has given new three spoke steering wheel along with a new design for the centre console.

Tata H5X will be powered by 2.0 L Multijet diesel engine producing 140 hp of power and 320 Nm of torque. This engine will be mated to 6 speed manual and automatic transmission. Tata Motors will offer two wheel drive and four wheel drive system with H5X. We can expect off-road modes which is similar to Land Rover terrain control system on H5X. Tata Motors will officially introduce the flagship SUV next year in India.

Jeep Renegade

Now, the American auto major is preparing to offer more affordable SUVs to the domestic buyers that include Renegade, Compass etc. Test mules of the Jeep Renegade have been spied couple of times on Indian roads, and this SUV is expected to arrive in late 2018. Upon arrival in the domestic market, Jeep renegade would be priced between Rs. 13 lakh and Rs. 18 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).

The Jeep renegade will lock horns with popular rivals like Renault Duster and Hyundai Creta. Speaking about its design, the Renegade SUV will carry the Jeep DNA featuring signature vertically slated aggressive looking front grille. At the side profile, it gets squarish wheel arches, flared fenders, black cladding, sporty alloy wheels, turn indicator integrated ORVMs, blackened glass area, sporty roof rail. Rear profile of this SUV gets compact squarish taillights, a chunky bumper and a roof spoiler will be there as well.

Interior of this car is expected to come delivering a premium feel to the occupants. It gets a black theme inside the cabin. Power source for the Jeep Renegade SUV will be a 2.0-litre Multijet diesel engine capable of churning out power output in two different states of tune, 138 bhp and 168 bhp. The car will have two different transmission options, 6-speed manual gearbox and a 9-speed automatic gearbox. Also, it will be available in both 4×2 and 4×4 driving options. It will also come with Jeep’s Select Terrain system that includes different driving modes like Snow, Auto Sand and Mud to tackle with different type of terrains.

Kia SP Concept

Kia officially announced its India entry at 2018 Auto Expo and the company showcased its entire portfolio but the stand out product was the SP Concept. Instead of bringing models from its International lineup, the company is focusing on bringing models specifically for Indian market and they want to localize heavily to keep price down.

The Korean manufactured started construction of its new plant in A.P and it will be completed by the middle of next year as the company is keen to start sales of new products in India. Kia new plant is expected to roll out production version of SP concept by the middle of next year with lots of localization as the company has tied up with local vendors.

The SP concept production version is going to compete head on against Hyundai Creta in India. The production version will carry forward the design philosophy of concept version. The design of SP Concept is inline with other models in Kia portfolio, even though it is a compact SUV the company has given proper SUV design theme.

The side profile is simple and doesn’t look boring thanks to the alloy wheels which will be 16 or 17 inch depending on variants. MG Motor is owned SAIC which is based in China but most of the products of British manufacturer has their own design to make the different from parent company’s model. The company is currently working on re-engineering Baojun 530 for India as the design will be completely different from the model sold in China.

One of the product currently under consideration is Kuga but the current model is nearing its end of life cycle, so its not a vise move to launch an old product. Fiat Tipo sedan shares its design language with the Tipo hatchback and it is expected to arrive in India sometime during 2018.
