Car manufacturers are gearing up to launch so many new models this year but some products will continue to lead their respective segments as they have established themselves as the best and in this article, we are featuring 10 segment leading cars, which will continue to rule despite the introduction of newer models in 2019.

1. Maruti Suzuki Alto

Maruti Suzuki Alto is the undisputed king in the entry-level hatchback segment in India. The current generation model has been in the market for some time now and we can expect a newer version to be introduced in 2020, which will meet the upcoming safety norms. The Alto design is simple and it comes with basic features.

The hatchback offers some safety features like driver side airbag with the entry-level model. Maruti Suzuki is offering Alto in two different versions as the Alto 800 is powered by 800 cc engine with 48 hp and Alto K10 model with 1.2 L K-Series producing 67 hp.

2. Maruti Suzuki Swift

The new generation Swift made its India debut in February 2018 and since then the hatchback has been the best selling model in its class. The Swift is based on Heartect platform and the company has given an evolutionary design theme for the hatchback as the front get new projector headlamps with LED DRLs.

The rear gets new LED tail lamps and the interior is completely redesigned. The hatchback is loaded with lots of features. Maruti has given two engine options for Swift, which includes 1.2 L petrol engine with 83 PS and 1.3 L DDiS unit with 75 PS, both mated to 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox options.

3. Maruti Suzuki Baleno

The Baleno is the best selling premium hatchback in the country and the company is expected to introduce an update soon, which will continue the sales momentum until the launch of the new generation model. The exterior design of Baleno took inspirations from the previous generation of Swift.

The interior also gets a new design theme and the company has packed the hatchback with lots of features like touchscreen infotainment system, climate control and more. Maruti Suzuki has given both diesel and petrol engine for Baleno with manual and CVT (only for petrol).

4. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga

The second generation was introduced in November and the initial response is really good. The Ertiga is positioned in the entry-level MPV segment and the new model is based on Heartect platform. The company has increased dimensions compared to earlier model and this has resulted in better interior space.

The MPV gets new grille with big projector headlamps and a new bumper while the tail lamp took inspirations from Volvo. The interior design is completely different and the MPV comes with lots of features. The Ertiga is powered by a new 1.5 L petrol engine and 1.3 L diesel engine with manual and AMT gearbox options.

5. Maruti Suzuki Ciaz

The Ciaz was facing stiff competition from its rivals and the company introduced the facelift model last year, which helped the sedan to continue its lead. The exterior gets minor changes like new front grille, bumper and revised headlamps. The alloy wheels also get a new design and the rear get a new bumper.

The interior gets minor changes like faux wood finish and a revised instrument cluster but the biggest update for Ciaz is the introduction of newly developed 1.5 L petrol engine with 105 PS and same 1.3 L diesel engine with 89 PS. These engines are mated to a 5-speed manual and auto gearbox with petrol model only.

6. Maruti Suzuki Dzire

Ever since the launch of Dzire, it is the best selling compact sedan in India and the current generation model continues its lead with a big margin over the rivals. The Dzire is based on Heartect platform and the design is completely different from its predecessor.

The interior gets a beige colour theme with lots of features and better interior space compared to the earlier model. The engine lineup has been carried over from the previous model with the same petrol and diesel engine with manual and AMT gearbox.

7. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza

Like most of the other models in this list, the Vitara Brezza is leading the segment since the launch as the SUV design theme along with aggressive pricing has helped the model to outsell the competition.

Maruti Suzuki introduced AMT version last year, which improved sales along with minor cosmetic updates like chrome-finished grille and tailgate. The Vitara Brezza continues to be powered by 1.3 L diesel engine with 89 hp and mated to 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox.

8. Hyundai Creta

Hyundai introduced an update for Creta last year, which has helped the company to improve sales. The exterior gets minor changes like new signature front grille with an updated bumper and LED DRLs integrated into the fog lamp housing.

The interior remains the same but the company has given some new features like wireless charging, electric driver seat, sunroof, cruise control and more. The Creta is powered by same 1.4 L diesel, 1.6 L diesel and petrol engine with manual and auto gearbox options. 9. Toyota Innova Crysta

Toyota has increased price of Innova Crysta consistently after each update but the model continues to lead the MPV segment in India. The latest generation model has been positioned as a premium product and the exterior design theme is different from its predecessor.

The interior is completely new with a premium design theme as the company has packed the MPV with lots of features like touchscreen system, climate control and more. The Innova Crysta is powered by 2.4 L and 2.8 L diesel engine along with a 2.7 L petrol engine also, mated to manual and automatic gearbox standard on top-end models.

10. Toyota Fortuner

The launch of the new generation Fortuner has helped the company to increase its lead over the rivals. The Fortuner gets an all-new design theme and the company has focused on increasing the premium appeal. The exterior continues the muscular SUV design with new projector headlamps while the rear gets LED tail lamps.

The interior is packed with lots of features and the SUV is powered by a 2.7 L petrol engine with 164 hp. The 2.8 L diesel engine puts out 174 hp, mated to manual and automatic gearbox options with two-wheel and four-wheel drive options.
