The Bonneville Speedmaster is based on the T120 and is aiming to appeal for a new set of audience. It has its own range of uniqueness when compared to the regular Bonneville Bobber in its lineup.

Using the hugely-popular Bobber as its base has distinctive advantages and the refined 1,200 cc parallel-twin T120 engine is in its high torque configuration. Courtesy of few significant changes, the Speedmaster has its own identity to brag about.

The highlighting change is the inclusion of a rear subframe offering a sometimes much-needed pillion option on a Bobber. It will be ideal for carrying more luggages during long travel due to its strengthened identity. The Speedmaster has a laid back stance and is obvious from the first sight.

The Beach Bars sweep from the mounts as similar to the American cruisers of the 1950s while the seat is positioned deeper and set at 15 mm higher – 705 mm. The comfort on tiring long rides is enabled by a set of forward mounted controls replacing the mid positioned footrests.

The fuel tank has been made bigger and can hold 12 litres – nearly 3 litres more the regular Bobber. It is in a hope to offer extended touring range between the fill ups. Customers can option out an LED headlight with Daytime Running Light along with some subtle vintage details reminiscing of the old Triumph cruisers.

Other key technologies include ABS, Traction Control, riding modes, cruise control, ride-by-wire throttle. Made available in Jet Black, Cranberry Red and Jet Black, and Fusion White and Phantom Black, it will lure the modern as well as classic enthusiasts with compelling British-American styling.

The beach bars control 41 mm cartridge fork holding a new 16-inch front rim and 310 mm twin disc front brakes with two twin piston Brembo calipers. Coping with subframe weight, luggage and pillion, the shock absorbers are revised with preload adjustment.

There are over 130 custom accessories to choose from but you can opt for two Inspiration kits as packages. The Highway kit provides chromed out luggage rack, polished machined oil filler cap, passenger back rest and engine bars, adjustable touring screen, comfort rider seat, matching wider pillion seat, fully waxed cotton and leather pannier set.

The Maverick kit, on the other hand, offers brown quilted single seat, flatter raked out handlebars, black Vance & Hines silencers and other blackened details. Powered by the 1,200 cc parallel-twin engine, the Speedmaster makes 76 bhp at 6,100 rpm and 106 Nm at 4,000 rpm.

Built on the tubular steel twin cradle chassis, it weighs 245.5 kilograms. A short history recall would make you aware that the Speedmaster moniker is not something new to the brand.

It was used originally for the Bonneville T120R in the United States back in the 1960s. Later on, it became the company’s factory custom and eventually had to be retired as it did not meet the strict Euro-IV emission norms but now it is back and with a superior build quality, fit and finish to entice new range of customers.

At a premium of around Rs. 1.5 lakh over the standard Bobber, it has become the least expensive cruiser from the brand within the domestic portfolio. It is now launched in India just over a month after home debut in the UK at a starting price of GBP 11,650 (Rs. 10.30 lakh) for the Jet Black colour variant. The Fusion White and Phantom Black cost GBP 300 more than the base Jet Black and the Cranberry Red slots just in the middle in terms of pricing.
