Tom Sykes has now gone through a successful surgery and is hoping for a speedy recovery
Kawasaki rider Tom Sykes has recently suffered a frightening crash on his ZX-10RR at the start of FP3 during Portimao WSBK weekend. The rider crashed at turn number nine and his bike almost instantly got surrounded by flames, resulting in a red flag session.
During the crash, Tom Sykes was thrown off his motorcycle and was detected with a dislocated fracture on the fifth finger on his left hand. Soon after, he was rushed to medical centre for further treatment and checks. As a result of this, Tom was declared unfit and missed the remainder for the race weekend.

Regarding his fracture, WorldSBK medical lead Monica Lazzarotti revealed that Tom has gone through surgery in Barcelona. He further added that the team is managing the surgery as Tom’s next step in order to stabilise the fracture. He says that the team is hoping that Tom makes a speedy recovery.
Due to the tragic accident, Tom is currently unfit for riding. He stands at number two in the World Superbike Championship, trailing 70 points behind the leader and his team mate, Jonathan Rea who in deed won at Portimao.

Latest reports suggest that Tom Sykes has undergone a successful surgery. The operation was done on Sunday – 17th September – at the iMove Traumatology Department of Clínica Mi Tres Torres at Barcelona.
Commenting on his crash and the successful surgery, Tom stated that the doctors seem to be happy how his operation went. He added that it was indeed a nasty blow and hence it was more than a dislocation. Besides, he also found a couple of things in his hand such as a crack on the next finger and a crack on the radius of the wrist. He also said that he has raced earlier with a broken wrist before in Australia. Tom is hoping for a speedy recovery in the coming days.
