Indian Motorcycle Range To See A Price Dip Soon

2016 Indian Scout Sixty Launched in India

The Polaris owned company currently sells its most affordable motorcycle in India in the form of Scout Sixty that retails at Rs. 12.59 lakh

Several big bike manufacturers have started assembling their products in India in the last few years. The reason for this is that the Government imposes a high custom duties on imported bikes which results in their prices getting more than doubled. Now, Polaris owned Indian Motorcycle has announced that it will soon start assembling its cruisers in India. Till now, the company used to import its bikes from the United States where it is headquartered.

Once Indian Motorcycle chooses the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route, the prices of its bikes will dip significantly. This will not only help the company boost its sales in the country but also compete more confidently with its prime rival – Harley-Davidson.

Harley-Davidson currently has a dedicated manufacturing facility in Haryana and hence, the prices of its products in India are justified. On the other hand, Indian Motorcycle has no such factory and due to this, its most affordable bike in India is the Scout Sixty that demands Rs. 12.59 lakh to own.

Regarding the local assembling of Indian motorcycles, Mr Pankaj Dubey, who is the Managing Director and Country Head at Polaris India has stated that with the adoption of CKD route, the market share of Indian Motorcycles in the country can double. This is a part of the company’s mid term horizon that is two to three years.
