Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza Review5

Top 10 selling UVs in August 2016 witnessed Vitara Brezza drawing close to 10,000 units ahead of Hyundai Creta and Toyota Innova Crysta

The month of August 2016 had been an auspicious time for the Indian automakers in the utility sector with Maruti Suzuki, Toyota and largest SUV manufacturer in the country Mahindra and Mahindra having reaped benefits. Maruti Suzuki has been doing stellar numbers with the Vitara Brezza as the subcompact SUV marches close towards 10,000th mark.

The Indo-Japanese brand registered a total of 9,554 units at the end of last month to lead the utility vehicle segment as a whole. By being the closest category of all in the Indian car industry, unlike other segments witnessing Maruti Suzuki monopoly, the momentum has often swung between Vitara, Creta and Innova Crysta.

Coming in at second was the compact SUV from Hyundai, the Creta, with 8,450 sold examples as only 1,104 separated it from the leading position. With just 221 units in between, Toyota’s Innova Crysta which long established itself as the leader in MPV segment, stands at third position as the popularity of the second generation model has been always on the up.

Outside the top three, we have Ford’s bestseller and the sub-4m SUV segment’s early benchmark the EcoSport. At 67 percent rise in sales, the global utilitarian lies at fourth with a strong showing of 5,248 delivered units in August 2016. Of the rest six vehicles, five belongs to Mahindra as the Bolero stalemate leads the way.

1. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza 9,554
2. Hyundai Creta 8,450
3. Toyota Innova Crysta 8,229
4. Ford EcoSport 5,248
5. Mahindra Bolero 4,841
6. Mahindra Scorpio 3,918

8. Mahindra TUV300 2,279

10. Mahindra XUV500 2,222

With marginal difference in sales compared to the same month previous term, Bolero was slotted at fifth with a total of 4,841 units. Behind the Bolero, another titan in the segment registered its presence as the Scorpio garnered a sales of 3,918 units last month which was a healthy YoY 13 percent increase.

Despite being overshadowed by Vitara Brezza and EcoSport, the TUV300 recorded 2,279 units of sales to finish eight, just 322 units behind the KUV100 micro-SUV launched earlier this year. The latter sits in a standalone segment thus far but it could face increased competition sometime next year with a Maruti Suzuki rival. Rounding out the bottom two were Honda BR-V and the flagship XUV500 as they registered 2,229 and 2,222 units of sales respectively.
