Top 10 selling scooters in July 2016 saw Navi making entry, Fascino recording 71% sales growth and Access tumbling by over 35%

If Honda Activa continuing to be the top dog in the scooter industry for the seventh successive month doesn’t surprise you, the fact that it has beaten Hero Splendor in terms of sales number for another month certainly will. At a YoY growth of 13.5 percent, Honda sold a mesmerizing 2,56,173 units last month which is two lakh units more than its nearest rival.

Coming in at second is the Activa’s direct 110cc rival, TVS Jupiter, which endured a steady climb to consolidate its position in the market with 46,557 units sold in July 2016. Another Honda scooter that has been yielding profits to the Japanese brand is the Dio – making waves among young riders. It posted a highly commendable 42 percent YoY growth to slot in at third.

2015 Yamaha Fascino performance

Dio has managed to keep that position for the last two months after clawing back four places from seventh in May. The largest two-wheeler manufacturer in the world, Hero MotoCorp, has significant presence in the scooter category as well with Maestro leading the charge. Despite only 18 percent YoY spike, only 77 units separated it from the Dio at a total of 32,311 delivered examples.

Hero Duet stands in at fifth as it registered sales of 24,391 units in July 2016. Yamaha’s Fascino has been growing in numbers since launched last year. The steady progress over the last few months has resulted in the scooter recording a massive 71 percent YoY surge with 18,162 units. Another Hero product featured in the top ten chart is the Pleasure.

At 11 percent YoY decline, Hero sold 15,738 units of the Pleasure as it lined up at seventh spot with increasing pressure from the recently launched rivals. Climbing a position from last July, the Yamaha Ray endured sales jump of 40 percent with 14,080 units over 10,0004 in the corresponding month last year.

While the only Suzuki in the top ten, the Access, sees a drop of over 35 percent in ninth place, Honda Navi wrapped up the table in final position. Powered by the same 110cc engine as the Activa, Dio and Aviator the Navi opened up a new moto-scooter segment that has been attracting customers in aplenty since the launch.
