No car dominated the Indian auto industry as the entry level Alto has had for many years with mesmerising sales numbers. It became the best selling car of all time surpassing its elder sibling, the 800, last year and has already attained an iconic status with its best-in-class functionality in the most hotly-contested segment in the market.

The year-ender proved to be yet another successful month for the little hatchback as Maruti managed to sell 22,589 units of Alto to underline an auspicious 2015. Following the Alto as ever is the sub-4m compact sedan from the country’s largest car manufacturer, the Swift Dzire. The facelift introduced last February has done apparent goods for the sedan as it received exterior changes and most crucially the improved economy from the engine has helped Maruti to retain Dzire’s unshakeable dominance in its segment. About 16,790 units were retailed in December 2015.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R, the tall-riding family runaround, has also been a mass seller propelled by the late introduction of AGS(Auto Gear Shift) technology. Whilst the automatic transmission delivered in captivating customers, the sheer volume in which the standard model has been selling was equally impressive throughout the year as the Wagon-R and Stingray combined to wound up December with 14,645 units.

The fourth product in the top ten selling chart for December saw Maruti Suzuki walking over its oppositions once again with ease as Swift hatchback wrapped up the final month of 2015 with how it had performed in the remaining 11 months. It has also been a consistent seller just as its leading siblings and completed December with 14,548 units.

The Indo-Japanese alliance’s plans to step in to the premium segment carried loads of potential and the Baleno has given the benchmark Hyundai Elite i20 a daunting run for its money already by featuring in the top 10 list at sixth with 10,572 units – whiskered away from the former in December by nearly 200 more units sold amidst more on-slaught is expected in 2016.
