Tata Tiago JTP (Baleno RS Rival) Launch Expected In The Coming Months

Tata Motors has seen immense success with the Tiago hatchback since its arrival in the domestic market. The sporty and stylish hatchback has become one of the major revenue generators for the homegrown brand. Thanks to its stylish design and upmarket features on offer along with efficient powertrain options, Tata Tiago has been able to become a very desirable hatchback for the entry-level buyers.

Inspired by the success of Tiago, the auto manufacturer is preparing to launch a new variant of the car that will be christened as Tiago JTP. Yes, you are not reading about it for the first time as we have reported about it already. At the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, Tata displayed a sporty variant of Bolt hatchback that was expected to be launched here soon after. However, that didn’t happen as the carmaker emphasised on the Tiago JTP instead.

Interestingly, Tata Motors joined hands with Coimbatore-based Jayem Automotive to produce sporty variants of the regular models. The first high performance car from this 50:50 partnership will likely be launched early this year and Tiago JTP is highly expected to be that model. Tata had showcased it at the 2018 Auto Expo before the commercial launch. It accompanies the sporty version of the Tigor subcompact sedan. 

Now, before the Tata Tiago JTP enters the country’s highly competitive and demanding auto market, let us take a look at the so far known facts about this model:

Tata Tiago JTP will surely be priced competitively against its rivals to lure the buyers. It is expected to be based on the top-end variant. It could be available only in petrol engine option and pricing for the car could be around Rs. 6 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).

Tata Tiago JTP is expected to hit the market in the coming months as the grand stage of 2018 Auto Expo has been used for its unveil. It also pays tribute to the circuit in which the car is developed – Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore – by Jayem Automotives and Tata Motors.

Tata Tiago JTP Engine, Specs and Performance

Tata Tiago JTP will use the Tata Nexon compact SUV’s 1.2-litre turbocharged Revotron engine. This engine is well capable of kicking out 108 bhp of peak power at 5,000 rpm and 170 Nm of peak torque between 1,750 rpm and 4,000 rpm. However, in both Tiagor and Tigor JTPs there are tweaked exhaust and intake units to aid more performance while producing only 150 Nm.

Petrol version of the standard Tata Tiago comes powered by a 1.2-litre Revotron engine that pumps out 84 bhp of peak power at 6,000 rpm and 114 Nm of peak torque at 3,500 rpm. On the transmission front, Tata Tiago JTP will be available with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Expect it to generate fuel efficiency around 20 kmpl.

Few months back Tata Motors launched the Tiago Wizz edition in the domestic market. We can assume that the Wiz edition gave us a loose preview of what we can expect from Tiago JTP. The new model will certainly come more aggressive looking and with more aerodynamic enhancement kit. It receives larger scoops on bumpers, blackened front grille, smoked headlamps and side skirts.

The sporty hatchback also gets new sporty design alloy wheels and the exciting body decals adding zing to the model. At the back too, it features integrated roof spoiler and LED taillights. A faux diffuser is there to increase the aggressive appeal of the high performance Tiago Sport.

In terms of dimension, Tata Tiago JTP appears similar to the standard model. It measures 3,746 mm in length, 1,647 mm in width, 1,535 mm in height and has wheelbase of 2,400 mm. The Tiago JTP has comparatively less ground clearance though at around 165 mm courtesy of the tuned suspension for sporty handling.

Inside the cabin too, Tiago JTP has several design elements emphasising on the sportiness of the hatchback. It sports an all-black colour theme inside the car. It would be great if Tata offers a flat-bottom sporty multifunction steering wheel but the standard wheel is leather wrapped. The seats are upholstered in leather as well.

The centre console has regular infotainment system with various connectivity options.

On the safety front, Tata Tiago JTP come equipped with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD. Apart from that, there will be rear parking sensor, seatbelt warning, engine immobilizer, etc.
