Tata Overtakes Mahindra and Toyota in the OEM rankings as the Tiago hatchback registered 6,008 units and entered top ten in November

Tata Motors has moved up in the OEM rankings and has been positioned third behind Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai. The November 2016 sales chart saw Tata dispossessing both Mahindra and Toyota as 12,736 units were sold as against 10,517 in the same month last year. This attributed to Y-o-Y sales surge of 21.1 percent as the Mumbai-based automaker holds 4.5 percent market share.

As the Y-o-Y growth of Mahindra & Mahindra stumbled by 32.8 percent, Tata Motors’ recently launched Tiago hatchback has done wonders. It entered the top ten selling vehicles’ chart as 6,008 examples were retailed in the month of November 2016. Launched in the first week of April, the Tiago quickly jumped to the leading position in terms of sales among Tata products.

Within just six months of its market entry, more than 50,000 bookings were registered. Since its launch, it made steady progress and by October, its highest monthly sales were achieved with 6,108 units. Despite the demonetisation, it still went on to garner over 6,000 deliveries last month. Tata’s new design language and powertrain lineup seem to have tasted success with the new Tiago looking at its selling figures.

The home-grown brand is rolling up its sleeves to enter the highly promising Hexa crossover on January 16 next year. It is expected to be followed by the Nexon and Kite 5 subcompact sedan in 2017 as Tata tries to fire up all its cylinders and enter the highly lucrative segments in the Indian market. Built with expertise from JLR, the Hexa is likely to cause a major stir in the UV space.
