Suzuki Swish 125 scooter production halted as the Japanese brand confirmed that it will be available only on customer demand

Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer Suzuki has halted the production of Swish 125cc scooter in India. Scooters are becoming more and more popular in domestic market in recent times. Suzuki Access is one of the scooters which is experiencing increasing demand and to meet Access’s rising demand the company decided to halt Swish’s production.

The stylish and sporty looking Suzuki Swish 125 was produced at the company’s Gurgaon plan. It was last manufactured in June 2016, when the production figure was only 132 units. The scooter was manufactured in 21,574 units and 18,457 units in FY2014-15 and FY2015-16 respectively. This marks the scooters monthly production of 1,800 units and 1,500 units on an average in FY2014-15 and FY2015-16 respectively.

Suzuki also sells another 125cc scooter in Indian market which is the popular Access. It sold 1,76,128 units in FY2015-16 and in the previous fiscal, the figure was more than two lakhs. On the other hand, Suzuki Swish 125 sold only 19,561 units and 19,244 units in FY2014-15 and FY2015-16 respectively, marking around 1,600 units per month. This shows how frustrating the sales figure has been for Swish 125.

Suzuki says that, the production of Swish has been halted to increase the popular Access’s production. This way waiting period for Access 125 will be reduced significantly. But despite production halting, the Suzuki Swish 125 will be available on demand and it will be sold in relevant markets, where demand for this model is high.

The Scooter market in India is dominated by 110cc models, where Suzuki has the Lets. On the other hand, the 125cc segment is less crowded in the domestic market. Now with the Swish’s production halted, the Suzuki has only Access in that segment. In fact, it only has two models in its stable now, which are the Access and Lets.
