Renault Kwid 1000cc spotted testing, to launch in June

Renault Kwid has become quite popular in Indian market since its launch in 2015. The compact hatchback in a SUV like disguise was launched with a 799 cc BR-8 DOHC petrol engine under the hood mated to a five speed manual transmission, which is capable to produce 54 PS of peak power and 72 Nm of peak torque. But later Renault decided to launch a more powerful variant in form of Kwid 1.0 litre, which was showcased at the 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo in February.

Recently a 1.0 litre Kwid was spotted testing undisguised in Chennai, which indicates launch is imminent. The car might launch in Indian market in coming June. The 1.0 litre variant doesn’t sport any visual change at the exterior than the 0.8 litre variant. Talking about interior, it would be available only on the top end RXT trim, which means the 1.0 litre variant will sport all the features available inside the cabin of RXT trim Kwid. It would get power windows at the front, upper glove box, electric power steering, completely digital display at the instrument cluster, a touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth, media navigation facilities. It sports fair amount of space for the occupants inside the cabin.

The Kwid 1.0 litre variant will be powered by the four cylinder unit from the same engine family like the previous version, and it would be paired with a five speed manual transmission, which will send power to the front wheels. This powertrain will churn out around 80 PS of peak power and 90 – 100 Nm of peak torque. The 0.8 litre variant delivers an impressive fuel efficiency of 25.17 kmpl. Expect the new engine to be fuel efficient as well.

Interestingly, In Chennai there was another regular variant Kwid spotted alongside the 1.0 litre variant. The regular variant was sporting alloy wheels, which might be an indication of an all new top end trim of the regular model, which would get the sporty alloy wheels, possibly dual front airbags and ABS on the safety ground. Once launched, the Renault Kwid 1.0 L will compete against other compact hatchbacks like Maruti Suzuki Alto K10, Hyundai Eon.
