Porsche 911 GT3 RS comes packed with track-derived techs, a 500 hp 4.0-litre flat-six engine that can do 0-100 kmph in just 3.3 seconds

At the Porsche Centre Bengaluru on Tuesday, the German automaker revealed the hardcore, track-ready 911 GT3 RS sports car. Porsche’s GT3 series is an extreme take on the normal 911s and the RS version are on top of that extremity in terms of performance standards. In essence, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS is a track-bred race car tuned for everyday road-legal use rather than the opposite.

Around the Nurburgring-Nordschleife race track in Germany, where it was nurtured through its development phase, the GT3 RS really came alive in production cars’ speed runs as it clocked seven minutes and 20 seconds – comprehensively shaming the Carrera GT. In production since 2013, the GT3 RS arrives in a high time where sports car eagerness stepping up to a new level in India; most recently with the launch of Ford Mustang GT.

Compared to the normal 911 GT3, Porsche used intelligent mix of materials to save the weight down by up to 10 kg. With the lightweight design, it has roof constructed from magnesium while the luggage compartment and engine have been made of ultra-light carbonfibre. Porsche engineers have taken the body of the regular 911 Turbo and did their magic with the application of aero-enhancing parts such as the wheel arches with air vents for undisturbed airflow and increase front axle downforce, front air inlets to effectively send air underneath the body, etc.

The hardcore model has the widest tyres of the entire 911 range as standard while the rear axle steering and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus with fully variable rear axle differential lock aids in throwing the car into the corners with confidence. The wider front and rear track widths improve roll stability and agility. The interior with Alcantara elements based on existing 911 GT3 has features like sporty bucket seats as seen on the flagship 918 Spyder.

The other standard features are Club Sport Package with bolted-on roll cage, six-point seat harness for driver and fire extinguisher with mounting bracket just like a fully-prepped race car. Besides battery master switch, the GT3 RS also comes with integrated timers and Porsche Track Precision app, measuring lap times and variety of driving parameters that can be compared and shared, on the standard Chrono Package.

Some of the interesting bits offered are Paddle Neutral and Pit Speed button for a regulated speed through pit lane on race track – thorough motorsport stuff. The sportscar measures 4,545 mm in length, 1,852 mm in width and 1,269 mm in height. The 911 GT3 RS gets power from a 4.0-litre six-cylinder engine developing a massive 500 hp and 480 Nm of torque peak torque. It is coupled with a track-tuned PDK transmission that helps accelerate from standstill to 100 Kmph in just 3.3 seconds while 200 Kmph is achieved in 10.9 seconds.
