Mercedes Maybach S600 Guard launched in India at Rs. 10.5 crore; the first armoured vehicle to be certified with VR10 cl will rival against the Audi A8 L Security in India

The Mercedes Maybach S600 Guard was unveiled at the Auto Expo 2016 last month with ERV (Explosive Resistant Vehicles) 2010 rating. The robust model is essentially the long-wheelbase S600 with special protection systems and it has been launched today for the Indian market at a price of Rs. 10.5 crore.

This follows the launch of the E-Class Edition E to commemorate over twenty years since the first E-Class W124 was produced in India. It will rival against BMW 7-Series High Security and the Audi A8 L Security internationally – the latter arrived at the Indian scenes for Rs. 9.15 crore (ex-showroom) already.

As part of a dozen launches this year, the Mercedes Maybach S600 Guard comes as the ultimate armoured machine from the German manufacturer’s stable and is said to be the ‘safest car on the planet’.

It will be sold through CBU channel in India and was the first armoured vehicle in the world to be certified VR10 rating, the highest ballistics protection class for civilian vehicles. Despite the buzz over security and protection, the Maybach provides all the luxury and comforts the S-Class limousine is renowned for.

The S600 Guard comes equipped with AIRMATIC suspension, adapted control technologies and intelligent driver assistance systems. The 4.7 tonne vehicle gets power from the massive 6.0-litre V12 engine generating 530 hp of maximum power output and 830 Nm of peak torque.

The petrol motor is coupled with the proven 7G-TRONIC automatic gearbox sending power to all four wheels. Each part of the special protection vehicle has been specifically designed and developed to stand firm upon heavy impacts. The AIRMATIC air suspension comprises of reinforced front air springs, steel springs at the rear axle and variable damper control for outstanding protection.

The brakes have been made larger than the standard S-Class with big six-piston brake calipers and Brake Discovery technology for additional stopping power. The polycarbonate inside glass coating protects occupants from any attack underneath and the vehicle can withstand a blast of almost 15 kg of TNT from as far as 4 metres away.

The reinforced base structure is integrated into the bodyshell during production as the special steel coating along the armoured vehicle’s outer structure for splinter protection, fuel tank constructed from the same material as in the Boeing AH-64 Apache tank attack helicopters and an emergency fresh air system for passengers to suppress any gas attack provide comprehensive ballistic protection.

The Michelin PAX run-flat tyres features TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) technology which enables the vehicle to get to a distance of up to 30 kilometres even on damaged tyres. Inside the cabin, the S600 Guard will have EASY ADJUST luxury head restraints, multi contour outer rear seats, heated windscreen and side windows, seat heating plus and ENERGIZING massage function.
