Maruti Suzuki Vitara Breeza Boosterjet is likely to source the engine from Baleno RS making 110 bhp and 170 Nm peak torque
Maruti Suzuki launched the Vitara Brezza subcompact SUV at the Delhi Auto Expo 2016 in early February. It caught the eyeballs of show spectators and potential buyers with a rousing response as the company would have anticipated and subsequently it entered the market with a highly competitive price range to rival the benchmark Ford EcoSport and relatively new Mahindra TUV300.
Putting aside the speculations, we revealed ahead of the launch about Maruti’s plans to introduce the Vitara Brezza only as a diesel model. The current powertrain is a familiar gas-guzzler from Maruti’s stable as it also powers the popular Swift, Ertiga, Ciaz and S-Cross. The Fiat-sourced four-cylinder 1.3-litre DDiS 200 engine produces 90 PS and 200 Nm torque.

For a compact SUV, some may consider the 1.2-litre petrol motor making 83 bhp is underpowered but for tax benefits on sub-four metre products it’s essential to not have the 1.4-litre petrol engine as well. Both petrol mills exist in the current engine family powering various products. This brings the 1.0-litre Boosterjet that powers the Baleno RS in frame for a potential feature with the Vitara Brezza.
Vitara Brezza Boosterjet Launch:
The Boosterjet version of the Brezza could be launched sometime at the end of this year or in the beginning stages of 2018.

Vitara Brezza Boosterjet 1.0L Boosterjet Engine:
Boosterjet Engine Could Initially be Imported:
The Boosterjet engine is imported from outside and is strapped with the Baleno that is shipped from Maruti Suzuki’s local production facilities to global markets. Therefore, the logistics wouldn’t be an issue for the Indo-Japanese brand.
Additionally, the Brezza Boosterjet and Baleno RS may have lower volumes initially prompting the import of engine. Maruti Suzuki will closely monitor their sales and could switch to local production for the Boosterjet if demands rise up high.
Vitara Brezza Boosterjet Could be Range Topper:
The 1.0L Boosterjet petrol engine could act as the top-of-the-range model in Vitara Brezza’s lineup currently having LDi, VDi and ZDi grades.

Vitara Brezza Boosterjet Likely to have Improved Economy:
The 1.3L diesel motor is claimed to return class-leading fuel efficiency of 24.3 km per litre. The Boosterjet motor is turbocharged and thus becomes driving sensitive in terms of offering mileage but since the Baleno RS is frugal than the existing petrol motor, we expect to see the same on Vitara Brezza as well.
