Mahindra has launched the all-new Automatic Transmission version of the XUV500 SUV in Australia. The legendary Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden and Pravin Shah, President & Chief Executive (Automotive), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. hosted the unveil of the seven-seater SUV. It will be sold across all the Mahindra dealerships in Australia from May onwards.
The two automatic variants made available are W8 2WD and W8 AWD with prices at $32,900 (Rs. 16.13 lakh) and $34,900 (Rs. 17.11 lakh) respectively. As being one of the fastest selling SUVs to reach 150,000 sales milestone, the new XUV500 has been introduced with Automatic Transmission sourced from Japanese supplier AISIN.
On the outside, the new XUV500 boasts prominent front grille with chrome inserts, static bending LED projector headlamps with light guides, newly designed 17-inch alloy wheels, rear chrome appliqué and stylish fog lamps. It comes with class-leading bootspace of 702 litres and braked tow capacity of 2.5 tons.
It is offered in six colour options namely Pearl White, Sunset Orange, Tuscan Red, Dolphin Grey, Moondust Silver and Volcano Black. The new XUV500 is mechanically the same as the current model except for the gearbox as mentioned before. It is powered by the same 2.2-litre mHawk engine that develops 150 bhp of maximum power output at 3,750 rpm and 330 Nm of peak torque delivered between 1,600 and 2,800 rpm.
The six-speed automatic transmission features two overdrive optimised gear rations and the second generation technology with torque converter and a planetary drivetrain enabling precise and smooth gear shifts. It comes with a “creep function” to aid in slow moving traffic conditions. The optional All Wheel Drive (AWD) system ensures optimum torque distribution to all four wheels by sensing difference in RPM.
The standard features included in the Australia-spec Mahindra XUV500 are Reverse Camera with Dynamic Assist, seven-inch Satellite Navigation System with GPS, Bluetooth and telephony functions, leathers seats, premium interiors, Cooled front row centre storage box, Wireless Tyre pressure monitoring system, ESC with rollover mitigation, ABS with electronic brake-force distribution, Hill Hold and Hill Descent Control, ten interior cup holders, 12 Volt Power Charging Sockets, eight interior LED lights, three ISOFIX Child Restraints in second row etc.
