Mahindra eyes Assam for new manufacturing plant as the Indian automaker is mulling possibility to set up its eighth production facility

Mahindra & Mahindra is certainly one of the strongest players in Indian automobile market, and the company is planning to set up a new manufacturing plant in Assam. It already has seven manufacturing plants in five states in the country. If the company finally sets up a new production plant in Assam, it will be the first automobile company to do so in the state.

Mahindra & Mahindra already has manufacturing plants in west, north and south India, and with Assam in mind the company now eyes north-east. A delegation from the automaker has already met with Assam government representatives earlier this year in July. Fiscal incentives from Assam government will play a vital role for Mahindra & Mahindra to finalize the decision.

While India is a rapidly emerging market for auto industry, north-east part of the country is yet to take part in the flow despite having strong demands. By setting up a manufacturing plant in Assam the automaker is planning to grab the huge market in the entire north-east India. Also setting up a vehicle manufacturing plant will ensure healthy employment in the state.

Mahindra is yet to make any official comment on the matter, but Assam’s Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has already discussed the plan with Commerce Minister of the state Chandra Mohan Patowary and other senior officials, and he has ensured about providing land for the plant from state land bank.

Also Mahindra manufactures and sells several agro equipments.
