Honda Activa One Crore Units Sales Landmark Achieved in India, in 15 Years
This was meant to happen. With sales continuously being more than one lakh every month, the Activa is still fighting for the number one crown but today it has achieved something bigger.
Honda has sold one crore Activa since the year 2001. Honda Activa outsold the Splendor in June and July 2015 by a huge margin and sold almost two lakh units every month. Honda must have dispatched and produced more scooters to reach this mark quickly or else pending demands must have met quickly to achieve this target.
Honda India claims that, today, every 2nd scooter customer in India rides home on an Activa. Honda Activa sales have gone up from 55,000 units (FY’2001-02) to 2.1 million units (FY’2014-15). Honda has updated the Activa thrice over the years. The old model with 102cc was replaced with a new model, which then again came with a new HET engine and now Honda Activa 3G comes in.
We think Activa-i and Honda Activa 125 have contributed to the sales and hence these numbers on monthly and landmark basis has been achieved. Honda 2Wheelers in India is now the undisputed market leader with 59% market share in the scooter segment. Something that Hero is set to upset with its upcoming fantastic and superior scooters.
Honda Activa I and 3G continue to get inferior suspension at the front. HET engine along with combi-braking system is offered on all models along with disc brake seen only on 125cc variant. Power continues to come from HET engines in all Activa variants. 125cc gets telescopic suspension and comes at a value for money price offering goodies as well.
The engine is bullet proof and despite bad ride quality and expensive service cost it continues to sell even more as word of mouth for the product is strong despite flaws the scooters has. Flaws which infact hurt the most to the buyers. We hope Honda takes this occasion and quickly works to truly make the Activa brand successful.
