Hero MotoSports Team Entering the World of off-road Motorcycle Racing

Hero MotoCorp joins hand with Speedbrain

Hero MotoCorp surprised many of us by announcing that the two wheeler maker is entering the exciting world of off-road motorcycle racing. For that the automaker has tied up with the German off-road racing specialist Speedbrain GmbH. The new Hero MotoSports Team Rally will debut at the upcoming Merzouga Rally in Morocco later in May, 2016. The Merzouga Rally is a Dakar series race, which will be held from 21st May to 21th may, this year.

The new motorsports team will use an upgraded version of the highly successful Speedbrain 450 rally motorcycle at the upcoming event. Not only that, the team will use the motorcycle up to the 2017 Dakar rally in several rallies across the world. Riding the Speedbrain 450 for the Hero MotoSports Team Rally will be Indian rider C S Santosh, who is the first Indian to compete in the famous Dakar Rally, and he will be accompanied by Portugese rider Joaquim ‘J-Rod’ Rodrigues. Speedbrain MD Wolfgang Fischer will run the team.

At the Hero MotoCorp the chief technology officer Markus Braunsperger will be in charge of the team, and the R&D centre of Hero MotoCorp will be closely associated with the Hero MotoSports team.

C S Santosh, the new team’s prime rider is a well known off-road motorcycle star in India, who has participated in several international rallies. He is poised to make a strong mark in the world of racing, while his team mate Joaquim Rodriguesis a rookie in rally sport, but he has plenty of experience with the Motocross and Supercross. The Hero MotoSports Team Rally will help in developing the future motorcycles for the automaker by collecting the data from various races they will compete in.

Hero MotoCorp Chairman, MD and CEO Mr. Pawan Munjal believes, in the recent past the automaker has already shown its capability in developing significant two wheeler technology, now the Motorsport is a new dimension for them. He also believes, that participation in motorsport will also help and allow the automaker to add top of the line technologies to their future products.
