Datsun unveiled its latest offering for the Indian market, the RediGO recently, and it will be launched in June 2016. The A-segment hatchback looks very much stylish and practical. Even if it is a small car and cheap by expected price range, it comes with styling job which will attract many people. On the styling front, the car looks better than the other Datsun models available in Indian market.
The youngest compact hatchback from Datsun will directly take on the popular and bold looking hatchback like Renault Kwid, Maruti Suzuki Alto and Hyundai Eon. Interestingly, the Datsun Redi Go is built on the CMF-A platform on which the Renault Kwid is built. It even gets the same engine which is under the hood of Renault Kwid.

Datsun Redi-Go vs Renault Kwid Exterior:
If we talk about design, Datsun Redi Go stands miles apart from Renault Kwid. The Redi Go comes more stylish compared to Renault Kwid’s sporty and aggressive looks. It dons the look, which seems very much of an urban crossover. Interestingly, the production model of Datsun Redi Go comes with the similar look, which the concept model had at the 2014 New Delhi Auto Expo. The Redi Go gets sharp swept back headlamps and hexagonal chrome embellished front grille.
The lower bumper gets sleek LED daytime running lights. Moving to the side profile, the car gets a muscular appearance with the thick cuts and creases. The short front overhang with sloping hood, raised shoulder line gives a taller stance to the car. It dons alloy wheels. The glass area and the ORVMs come blackened. The masculinity continues to the rear as well with thick cuts. The rear gets vertically placed taillights and a roof spoiler.
On the other hand, the Renault Kwid is very aggressive looking hatchback with styling like a SUV. The front fascia gets sharp headlamps with aggressive looking front grille, which sports the diamond shaped Renault logo at the centre.
The lower bumper is very much muscular with the air intake and the round shaped fog lamps. Talking about the side profile, Kwid gets a muscular appearance with thick cuts, black plastic cladding at the lower body. The glass area comes with a blackened appearance. The rear sports a lifted up look, and it gets wrapping around taillamps, roof spoiler.
Datsun Redi-Go vs Renault Kwid Dimension:
Dimensionally Datsun Redi Go will sit close to the Renault Kwid. It measures a length of 3400 mm, 1600 mm of width, 1500 mm of height and a wheelbase of 2430 mm. The car will sport a ground clearance of 185 mm.
On the other hand the Renault Kwid sports 3679 mm of length, 1579 mm of width, 1478 mm of height and 2422 mm of wheelbase. The ground clearance comes at 180 mm. The Kwid maybe 279 mm longer than the Redi GO but is 21 mm less wide and has 8 mm shorter wheelbase. The tallboy hatchback stands 22 mm taller than the Kwid with a class-leading ground clearance of 185 mm (5 mm more than the Kwid).
Datsun Redi-Go vs Renault Kwid Interior:
Both the cars get a minimalist yet practical interior. Datsun Redi Go sports a black and beige dual tone theme inside the cabin. It gets a three spoke steering wheel sans any functional button; the instrument cluster gets a large analog dial accompanied by a small digital console. The centre console practically boasts nothing but a stereo console, few control knobs and AC vents. The cabin gets fabric upholstery and the door trims might get body colour touches.
Renault Kwid’s cabin on the other hand looks more upmarket compare to Datsun Redi Go. It gets a sporty black theme inside the cabin. Alongside the car gets a three spoke steering wheel, a fully digital instrument cluster. The top trim of the Kwid gets a touchscreen infotainment system, which is not available in the Datsun Redi Go. So, it is evident, that the Renault Kwid comes with better and more features than its newest competitor.
Datsun Redi-Go vs Renault Kwid Powertrain:
Datsun Redi Go gets the same engine as the Renault Kwid gets under the hood. The 799 cc SCe three cylinder petrol engine mated to a five speed manual transmission churns out 54 PS peak power and 72 Nm of peak torque. Power will be sent to the front wheels.
In the Renault Kwid the powertrain delivers 25.17 kmpl of fuel economy. The Datsun Redi Go could come with the same figure. At the 2016 Auto Expo Renault showcased the 1.0 litre Kwid with an AMT gearbox, which might make its way into the Datsun Redi Go as well. Despite having the same mechanicals (even the gear ratios are identical), the Renault Kwid has the upper hand in terms of driving dynamics and maneuverability.
Price:
The Datsun Redi Go will be priced at around Rs. 2.5 lakh to 3.5 lakh. The Renault Kwid is priced between Rs.2.7 lakh to Rs. 3.8 lakh. The low-cost budget brand of Nisan believes that the aggressive pricing will undercut the rivals in its segments and it is the biggest weapon in its armoury.
Verdict:
If we see the design, the Datsun Redi Go sports a stylish exterior. The Kwid on the other hand gets a rugged and appealing design. Feature wise the Kwid comes way ahead of Datsun Redi Go. But in Indian market, pricing is a vital factor, and Datsun Redi Go surely comes less priced than Kwid. Overall, it will be a tough battle between these two cars with the segment-leading Maruti Suzuki Alto and Hyundai Eon giving a tough run for the money.
