Aprilia SR150 becomes bestselling Piaggio Scooter by beating entire Vespa Range as 3,403 units were sold in October 2016 as against Vespa’s 2,700 units

The Aprilia SR150 was launched in India in August this year. In October, the sporty looking premium scooter has become Piaggio’s bestselling model in the country. It has sold 3,403 units last month and beaten the entire Vespa range, which is also sold by the Piaggio group. Last month the Vespa range has registered 2,700 units, which marks 4% decline in year-on-year sales chart and 703 units lesser than SR150. In October last year, Vespa sold 2,826 units.

Both the Aprilia SR150 and Vespa range are being produced at Piaggio’s India plant in Baramati, Maharashtra. The Aprilia SR150 is a sporty and aggressive looking premium scooter with a 150 cc engine. It was first showcased at the 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo in February. The scooter sports an appearance, which is a blend between a scooter and a motorcycle.

The SR150 is the first scooter from Aprilia and it takes design inspiration from the Italian brand’s RSV 4 1000 RF Factory motorcycle. It comes with an eye-catching design and sports a beak-like front cowl, a large dual-barrel headlamp positioned at the centre of the cowl and handlebar mounted turn indicators. Apart from that, it also comes with dual pod analog instrument cluster, dual-tone leather seat, split grab rail, stylish taillight.

The Aprilia SR150 takes power from a 154.4 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine; paired with a CVT. This same engine does duty in another premium scooter Vespa 150 as well. It is capable to churn out 10.4 hp of peak power at 6,750 rpm and 11.4 Nm of peak torque at 5,000 rpm.

The Aprilia SR150 premium scooter runs on 14-inch black alloy wheels. A 220 mm disc brake at front and a 140 mm drum unit at rear do the braking duty. Telescopic front fork and single arm rear suspension ensure a smoother ride for the scooter. It comes available at a price-tag of Rs. 67,950 (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
