Ahmedabad among Jeep India’s dealerships; the brand will enter domestic market with the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee SUVs
Jeep India, the Indian arm of the famous American SUV manufacturer, will be entering the domestic market after months of speculations on September 1. The company owned by FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) will be launching two of its popular sport utility vehicles in India as the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee will grace the premium market carrying loads of anticipations. The snapped picture suggests that the brand is gearing up for a dealership in Ahmedabad which should be among some of the leading cities in the country.
Jeep could use local production and make India as its manufacturing hub for right-hand drive models but as of now both the models will be brought in through CBU channel. With rich American tradition, the Jeep Grand Cherokee will be made available in two variants namely Summit and Limited. The high-end performance SRT version of the Grand Cherokee will also see the light.

The Grand Cherokee gets power from a 3.0-litre EcoDiesel turbocharged V6 diesel motor which is good enough to produce a maximum power output of 240 bhp and 570 Nm of peak torque. The power will be sent to all four wheels via a Quadra Trac II and Quadra Drive II for Limited and Summit variants respectively. While there is no manual on offer, the eight-speed automatic with paddle shifters will do the transmission duties and help accomplish a rated fuel economy of 12.8 kmpl.
The Grand Cherokee SRT performance grade will be strapped with the massive 6.4-litre HEMI V8 mill which develops 470 bhp and it comes coupled with an eight-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters as in other two versions. The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, on the other hand, will source power from a 2.8-litre turbocharged four-pot diesel engine which makes 197 bhp and 460 Nm of peak torque.

It has a claimed fuel efficiency of 12.1 kmpl and the power is transferred to all four wheels through a five-speed auto ‘box with the aid of Command-Trac shift-on-Fly 4WD system. The safety technologies that will be offered are ABS, cruise control, keyless entry, hill assist and control, four-wheel traction control, etc. The standard features list comprises of auto dimming rearview mirror with mic, heated steering wheel, eight-way adjustable driver and passenger seats and so on.
