2017 Ford EcoSport Facelift spied testing; receives updated exterior and a revised interior
Within a few months of the facelifted EcoSport’s launch in India, the spied images of the next model year SUV have emerged on the internet. Courtesy of Brazilian website, AutosSegredos.com.br, the exterior styling as well as the pictures of the test mule’s interior have been revealed. It could more likely come to India in the second half of next year.
On the outside, the 2017 EcoSport appears to have borrowed the sleeker headlamp design from the flagship Endeavour SUV. Modifications to fog lamps are expected as they seem to have been placed up higher than normal. The alloy wheels have received new design likewise and the spare wheel mounted at the rear is reported to remain at the same position.
As for the interiors, the updated EcoSport will have revised instrument panel with the size of the pods becoming more matured allowing for a bigger display screen. More significantly, the tachometer allows space for temperature gauge and it now reads up to 8,000 rpm as opposed to 6,000 rpm limit in the existing model while the fuel gauge sits inside the speedometer.
The three-spoke steering wheel has button controls on both sides in contrary to the left side on the recently updated EcoSport in India. The full-colour display has been opted for the infotainment system in place of the blue coloured display on the existing model. No mechanical changes are expected as the 1.0L EcoBoost and 1.5L Ti-VCT could continue as the petrol engines besides the newly updated 1.5L TDCi diesel motor.
Ford launched the facelifted version of its EcoSport last October, priced between 6.79 lakh and Rs 10.44 lakh (both ex-showroom, Delhi). New features along with additional equipment and the uprated diesel engine now producing extra horsepower had been part of the package.
On the aesthetic front, styling elements like LED Daytime Running Lights and new fog lamps were included. Golden Bronze shade was introduced in the facelift version with the cabin design left unaltered. The interior changes included were chrome-treated door handles, window switches, etc. Auto headlamps, electro-chromic mirror, Ford’s SYNC with AppLink car connectivity, rain sensing wipers and automatic climate control were among several others that formed the extended features list.
The 1.5-litre diesel engine puts out an extra 10 PS as the power is increased to 100 PS whilst delivering 200 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes married with a five-speed manual transmission and is claimed to return a mileage of 22.27 kmpl. All but the base variant are now being offered with ABS and EBD as standard with up to six-airbags provided in the top-of-the-line variants.
