2017 Chevrolet Cruze India launch is expected to happen at the 14th edition of Indian Auto Expo at Greater Noida

The plans for what could be considered as a brand revival was announced yesterday as General Motors revealed that at least five new products will be launched within the next 24 months. With the soft-roader based on the Beat Activ concept showcased at the Auto Expo 2016 being a significant product, the new generation iteration of the popular Beat hatchback and the subcompact Beat Essentia sedan will be aiming at appealing to the masses.

The other two new products are upmarket: the next generation Cruze executive sedan and the facelifted Trailblazer premium SUV rivalling against the Ford Endeavour and the forthcoming Toyota Fortuner. Chevrolet launched the 2016 MY update for the Cruze at the end of January and reduced the prices by up to Rs. 86,000 the following month.

With the new generation of the sedan expected within the next years as part of the five-product assault, it is more likely to make Indian debut at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. The new Cruze is already running on international roads and has a 27% stiffer construction with more aerodynamically-shaped body lines and curves enabling it to have a very low drag co-efficient of 0.29 Cd.

It sits on an all-new D2XX FWD platform making the car lighter than currently is. About 113 kilograms dearer to its predecessor, the new architecture will help in improving handling characteristics and reduce the body-roll while catering a sporty and comfortable ride.

In the US, the new Cruze sedan is powered by a 1.4-litre, direct-injected, turbocharged engine with start/stop technology putting out 153 hp of maximum power and 240 Nm of peak torque. Power is transferred to the front wheels through a six speed manual or automatic transmission helping it to achieve 0-100 kmph run in just eight seconds. The existing 2.0-litre engine is likely to be retained for the new Cruze in India.
