Ford Motor Company’s 1.0 litre EcoBoost petrol engine has been making the headlines in last five years. The popular petrol engine has won the “Best Engine Under 1.0-liter” award in 2016 International Engine of the Year. This the fifth consecutive year the 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine has won the prestigious award which is known as the Oscar of automotive world.
The 1.0 litre engine is a sporty and well performing engine which also delivers an impressive fuel economy. The Ford Motor Company sells popular compact SUV Ford EcoSport in Indian market with the three cylinder 1.0 litre EcoBoost petrol engine in the Trend+ and Titanium+ trims. The engine delivers 18.9 kmpl of fuel economy in the Ford EcoSport. Alongside the 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine is also known for being quite environment friendly. The engine emits 126 kg/km carbon dioxide. This makes the engine the most environment friendly engine in the segment.
The 1.0 litre EcoBoost petrol engine won the prestigious award in 2012 for the first time, when it was awarded “Best New Engine”. Later the engine was awarded “Best Engine Overall” for three times and the “Best Engine under 1.0 litre” for four times. Interestingly, the 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine can compete with larger 1.6 litre petrol engine easily.
The jury panel at the 2016 International Engine of the Year award comprises 65 automotive journalists from 31 countries across the world. In 2012 there were a total of 19 engines competing each other, while this year the number of engine shot up to 32. While many drivers across the world doubts on the capability of the smaller engines, the Ford 1.0 litre EcoBoost petrol engine has proved its mettle.
This engine is currently available in 72 countries across the world. The 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine provides power to a more than 20 cars which include the Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus. Interestingly, in 2015 Ford sold one in every fourth model in the Asia Pacific region with the 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine.
